Ohio Wesleyan University, a Division III private liberal arts institution of higher learning in Delaware, Ohio, invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Athletics. OWU seeks a Director who values the student-athlete experience at the Division III level and who has a track record of collegiate administrative accomplishment in creating an environment that fosters success in all sports and reflects the highest values of the Division III student-athlete experience.
Reporting to the Provost, the Director must provide strategic leadership for the Athletic Department while supporting the wider mission and goals of the University. The Director will advocate for the importance of athletics both on and off campus and at all times model the highest standards of the University. A successful candidate will have a record of fostering these same attributes in others while providing leadership in a highly competitive athletic program. The successful candidate should demonstrate and support a commitment and sensitivity to diversity, gender equity, and equal opportunity, including valuing each varsity sport equally. Responsibilities: The Athletic Director will provide strategic leadership that includes: Enhancing existing programs and developing new programs in intercollegiate athletics that support the University’s strategic objectives for enrollment, retention and net tuition revenue. Coordinate overall departmental operations. Partner with Admissions and University Advancement and actively engage a supportive alumni base. Work in coordination with the Vice President for Student Engagement and Success to develop and support student access to athletic facilities for club sports, intramural, recreational, and health and wellness programs.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications and experience: Master’s degree and 7-10 years of relevant progressive experience in intercollegiate athletic administrative leadership. Preference will be given to those with full-time administrative experience and with experience in Division III. Must have strong organizational skills, excellence in prioritizing multiple tasks, problem solving, meeting deadlines, be comfortable working in a high expectation liberal arts environment, and demonstrate proven leadership and strong management skills including planning, financial and budget oversight.
