McNeese State University, a Division I member of the NCAA and the Southland Conference, is seeking a highly motivated individual with strong communication and technological skills for a full-time position of Assistant Sports Information Director. This position will provide assistance with planning and implementing communications strategies as they relate to the goals and objectives of McNeese’s 16-sport NCAA Division I athletics program.
This person will assist the Sports Information Director in efforts to adhere to McNeese State University, Southland Conference and NCAA policies and procedures as it relates to athletic media relations, publications, game day management, statistics, social media and video operations.
Job duties include but are not limited to the following:
• Know, understand and comply with policies of McNeese, the Southland Conference and the NCAA.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with local, regional and national media.
• Prepare press releases, game notes, feature articles and media guides for assigned sports.
• Strong writing skills with knowledge of AP style.
• Manage social media accounts with implementation and knowledge of latest trends and practices.
• Develop and maintain good working relationships with staff, coaches and student-athletes.
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of terminology and statistics used in intercollegiate sports.
• Maintain department archival records and statistical files.
• Assist with game management duties for home events.
• Maintain basic knowledge of all sports.
• Ability to create and update graphics using Adobe Photoshop.
• Ability to create and update documents using Adobe InDesign.
• Knowledge of the operation of Stat Crew software.
• Knowledge of Sidearm Sports website.
• Able to shoot live action video and interviews and able to edit using Adobe Premiere Pro.
Education:
Required: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in communications, public relations or sports management.
Experience:
Two years experience in media relations, athletics communications or sports information with experience as being the primary SID contact for a sport or sports.
Computer/Software Skills:
Required: Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); Adobe InDesign, PhotoShop and Premiere Pro; Stat Crew software; social media platforms (including but not limited to Facebook, Twitter, Instagram and Snap Chat).
Preferred: Knowledge and experience with baseball/softball scoring, basketball scoring and football scoring on Stat Crew.
