Denison University invites applications for the position of Assistant Athletic Director and Assistant Professor. Denison’s varsity athletics programs compete in the NCAA Division III and the North Coast Athletic Conference. Participation in intercollegiate sports is an integral part of our students’ overall educational experience. Denison has captured an NCAC conference record of 15 All-Sports trophies, 135 conference championships, and has produced 47 NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship recipients which rank third among all NCAA Division III institutions. Denison is committed to a broad-based program of intercollegiate athletics, sponsoring 23 varsity sports; 12 for women and 11 for men.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE POSITION:
The Assistant Athletic Director must have a good knowledge of NCAA regulations and is responsible to assist with the leadership and management of the intercollegiate athletic program including but not limited to: student athlete welfare, department evaluation and assessment and administrative duties assigned by the Athletic Director. The Assistant Athletic Director will oversee several sports as a direct report. In addition, the Assistant Athletic Director will assist with the department character and leadership development education; must have a good understanding of the policies and procedures of the athletics department, university, NCAA and the North Coast Athletic Conference. This is a faculty position and the candidate will teach in the Health, Exercise, and Sport Studies major. The candidate will be expected to participate actively in the university community and serve on appropriate university and department committees. The successful candidate must ensure positive relationships with key stakeholders, including alumni, local community, fans, parents, coaches, student-athletes, faculty and other University constituents.
QUALIFICATIONS: A master’s degree is required. Candidates must have a sound knowledge and successful experience in teaching, coaching and/or athletic administration; successful and proven experience in student-athlete welfare; and excellent problem solving, analytical, interpersonal and organizational skills. Candidates must be able to demonstrate an understanding of a residential, liberal arts college environment and demonstrate experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds. Candidates must have strong oral/written communication skills with an excellent ability to relate to students, athletic department staff and campus colleagues. Responsible for effective supervision of staff as assigned. Demonstrate an understanding of NCAA Division III regulations regarding intercollegiate sports; educate the Athletics staff about NCAA and conference legislation. Must be able to demonstrate and model positive leadership skills for coaches, staff and students. Must have a current and valid driver’s license and must be insurable under Denison’s liability insurance policy. Preferred qualifications: at least one year of significant and demonstrable experience working with individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences.
