Appalachian State University - Director of Development for Athletics
Salary: Commensurate with qualifications and experience. (Range - $40,000 - $65,000)
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree from four-year accredited college or university required. Minimum three to five years’ experience in fundraising or a closely related/comparable field. Defined success in sales, philanthropic fundraising and project management. Preferred: Master’s degree.
Experienced relationship builder with excellence communication skills-and the ability to be responsive, resourceful and relationship-oriented. Background in higher education and athletic department operations. Knowledge of computer systems for prospect, donor, and ticketing management. Ability to work evenings and weekends with willingness to travel.
Skills and Abilities: Excellent interpersonal skills to relate to and establish relationships with donors, volunteers and colleagues. Self-motivated with ability to set strategic goals while implementing fundraising principles and tactics. Understanding of donor/constituent database systems and the ability to analyze data, extract conclusions, and use findings to implement plans.
Responsibilities: The Director of Development for Athletics will be responsible for the major gift and annual solicitation of donors and prospects to grow financial support for Appalachian State athletics. The position will be expected to maintain a prospect pool, generate new leads and charged with soliciting commitments in excess of $25,000. The primary focus will be to engage constituent members and prospects with face-to-face meetings, group settings and events. This position works closely with athletic development staff, ticket office and coaches.
Essential Duties: Fundraising and philanthropic efforts to include
• Reach defined fundraising goals in dollars and members as set by senior level administration
• Solicitation of constituents for major gifts and benefit fulfillment to active donors and prospects
• Work off assigned prospect list to evaluate, cultivate, solicit and steward donor
• Use data and prospecting tools to find new constituents interested in Appalachian State athletics
• Add value to overarching athletic development unit to successfully reach and grow financial and membership goals on annual basis
• Game day responsibilities and coordination
• Donor/Prospect management reports
• Athletic Development strategic planning support
Cultivate leadership donors / prospects and solicit their support
Work with sport programs and head coaches to ensure annual fundraising initiatives are successful
