Program Director
Position:Program Director

Salary: Commensurate with experience and education
Hours:Full-time Position – Variable schedule includes evening and weekend hours. Exempt from overtime.
Key Responsibilities
Job duties include promotion, development, implementation, coordination, and supervision of various adaptive sports and recreational programs for youth, teens and adults who have a primary physical or visual impairment. This includes weekly programs, specialized sports camps, injured military, clinics, competitions and special events. The position will include direct coaching and instruction.
Desirable Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities
• Knowledge of adaptive sports planning and procedures, including scheduling, individualized goal setting, staffing, reporting and safety procedures.
• Knowledge of various disability sports organizations on a regional and national basis.
• Ability to relate effectively with athletes, fellow employees, and the public; express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Knowledge and training in medical concerns and sports programming, that relate to GLASA’s target population.
• Ability to provide instruction or obtain resources for all levels of adaptive, Paralympic and integrative sports and recreation activities.
• Ability to supervise volunteers and part-time staff.
• Strong organizational, public relations, communication, and problem solving skills.
• Strong leadership skills to promote programs and recruit participants.
• Experience in organizing and conducting adaptive sports day camp.
• Ability to perform required duties under stressful situations without supervision.

Job Strength Requirements
The Program Director must, with or without reasonable accommodations, be able to perform the following functions:
WEIGHTBEARING:
• Ability to safely lift, transfer and/or position individuals with mobility impairments in wheelchairs at a minimum of 60 pounds per individual.
• Ability to lift wheelchairs over obstructions such as curbs, small stairs, and other barriers.
• Ability to gather and transfer program equipment or trip luggage at a minimum of 20 pounds for an item.
AGILITY/FLEXIBILITY/BALANCE:
• Ability to kneel down, rotate body position, and reach into small spaces such as wheelchair tie down areas on vehicles.
MANUAL DEXERITY:
• Ability to safely drive vehicles transporting passengers, to manipulate vehicle controls and operate wheelchair lift equipment.
• May be asked to assist with personal care activities for participants
STAMINA:
• Ability to work a varied scheduled of days, evenings, weekends, and overnights.
• Ability to drive long distances on trips and overnight events.
Minimum Qualifications
1. Education: Completion of a Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Recreation and Leisure Services, Therapeutic Recreation, kinesiology, exercise physiology, Adapted Physical Education, related field, or proven track record of successful implementation in adaptive sports programming. Masters degree and NCTRC eligible a plus.
2. Experience: Minimum of One (1) year of full-time leadership, coaching and programming experience with Paralympic eligible population.
3. Valid driver’s license and acceptable motor vehicle record.
4. Good computer skills, including word, excel, and power-point.
5. Strong personal passion to provide sports and wellness to persons who have a physical or visual impairment.

To promote and support the optimal development and well being for youth and adults who have a primary physical or visual impairment through the provision of inclusive recreational, fitness and competitive sports activities and to offer opportunities for empowerment through education, leadership and training in collaboration with community based organizations.
GLASA is a gold-level Paralympic Sport Club, the regional sports organization for Adaptive Sports, USA, Chapter of Disabled Sports USA and United States Association of Blind Athletes.
