Under general direction of the Athletics Director, responsible for oversight of work pertinent to student-athlete outcomes, such as academic success, personal growth, character development, and postgraduate career placement. Design, implement, and operate the nation's leading program for fostering excellence in student-athlete outcomes. Ensure that the program is designed and branded in a manner that creates a significant recruiting asset for UC Davis Athletics. Work with student-athletes to place them in internships that meet training schedule requirements and full time jobs or graduate school positions upon graduation. Work with coaches and student-athletes to facilitate evaluation of and training for characteristics such as grit and emotional intelligence. Integrate student-athlete outcomes programming directly into the day-to-day student-athlete experience. Provide career education programming to student-athletes starting from freshman year, with particular focus on first-generation student-athletes and student-athletes from socioeconomically disadvantaged backgrounds. Interface with leaders in business, education, and other domains, including donors and alumni, to develop postgraduate opportunities for student-athletes. Facilitate the nomination of high-performing student-athletes for prestigious postgraduate scholarships, such as the Rhodes, Marshall, and Knight-Hennessey.
Manage a substantial budget to enhance the educational opportunities of student-athletes. Oversight of multiple sports budgets. Interface with multiple units on campus in the construction and operation of the student-athlete outcomes program, including the internship and career center, graduate school of management, faculty athletics representative, student success centers, and other campus partners and resources.
As a member of the senior staff, provide leadership and advising and student-athlete outcome expertise to ICA unit directors and head coaches. Supervise 3-5 assigned division I sports.

Minimum Qualifications:
Master's or other graduate degree.
Experience leading a successful student-athlete development program and/or a talent development program in higher education.
Advanced advising and counseling skills.
Skills to deal with student-athletes in academic and personal crisis situations while maintaining professional boundaries.
Ability to make initial assessment for appropriate campus or community referrals for students with disabilities and psychological issues.
Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills and a high degree of professional ethics.
Strong leadership, management, analytical and planning skills.
Experience developing long-range plans based on research and theory in the field of advising and counseling college student-athletes.
Skills to initiate and execute complex programs and strategies.
Skills to interact effectively and ethically establish cooperative working relationships with highly motivated UC Davis student-athletes, coaches, colleagues, department staff, faculty, and other persons from diverse backgrounds.
An enthusiasm for promoting the career development and successful placement of students.
Skills to maintain confidentiality.
Skills to apply confidentiality guidelines to advising practice as well as situations in which media or fans request information. Experience training staff on appropriate confidentiality practices.
Computer skills to use e-mail, BANNER, and the internet.
Experience producing spreadsheets, memos, reports, and materials using Word and Excel.
Experience using online eligibility system based in FileMakerPro.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge of UC Davis academic requirements, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of transfer policies and procedures. Interaction of UC Davis academic requirements/rules with NCAA and various conference rules.
Knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and ability to communicate complex interpretations of the NCAA Manual.
Ability to apply interpretations to individual student situations.
Ability to clearly explain rules and regulations to prospective students, current student-athletes, parents, and athletic advisors at other institutions.
Knowledge of UC Davis personnel guidelines.
