The Town of Amherst, Massachusetts seeks a visionary and creative recreation professional to plan, evaluate, and direct a comprehensive, year-round municipal recreation and continuing education department (called Leisure Services & Supplemental Education) serving all ages, income levels and special populations of Amherst and its School Districts. Incumbent retiring after 30 year career. Community is exceptionally supportive of recreation programs and provides a great opportunity to assess community recreation needs and priorities and craft annual and capital budgets to match. The Director will recruit, manage and develop talented seasonal and professional staff and support the volunteer LSSE Commission and other ad-hoc committees. Facilities include theater, aquatics, golf course, fields, tennis courts, pavilions and parks. FY 17 salary range $70,500-90,261 annually. BA Degree required. MA desired, + seven (7) years relevant experience including 5 years direct responsibility for developing and supervising recreation programs. Certified Recreation and Parks Professional, (CRPP) preferred.
