As a direct report to the Chancellor, the Director of Intercollegiate Athletics has overall responsibility of leadership in planning, organizing, and managing the programs and activities of Intercollegiate Athletics within a data-driven decision-making assessment culture. The position duties include, but are not limited to, strategic planning, budgeting and administrative activities, public relations and fundraising responsibilities necessary to achieve a sustainable athletics program and student-athlete academic excellence. The Athletics Director is responsible for the leadership, development and management of a competitive and high-quality Division I (FCS football) athletics program. The Director must ensure the department operates within the University’s mission and the policies and guidelines of the University, NCAA and Ohio Valley Conference.
RESPONSIBILTIES AND DUTIES:
Actively support and ensure compliance with NCAA, NIRA, OVC and UT Martin policies, rules, regulations, and operational procedures. Advance student well-being and academic success. Recruit, support and supervise a diverse pool of strong, ethical and talented coaches to build and enhance competitive athletic programs. Organize and supervise the Athletics staff and delegate specific responsibilities, as appropriate, to ensure an efficient and productive operation. Encourage diversity and inclusion within Intercollegiate Athletics with regard to students and staff. Provide strategic, positive leadership to attain goals related to competitiveness, student academic achievement, compliance and financial management while reflecting the mission and values of UT Martin. This includes external functions of the department such as fundraising, brand management, ticket selling, sponsorship, media and marketing, and event attendance. Develop and implement a fundraising plan in coordination with University Advancement to enable Athletics to achieve annual goals. Serve as a visible leader both on campus and in the community representing UTM and Intercollegiate Athletics, demonstrating personal and professional integrity while promoting the best interests of the University. Participate in planning, communication and collaboration with the Chancellor, Athletics Board, and Skyhawk Club Board of Directors and Club members to ensure alignment between the mission and goals of Intercollegiate Athletics and those of the University. Work to ensure collaboration and positive relationships between Intercollegiate Athletics and other departments on campus. Perform other duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and proven fundraising, administrative, and financial skills with 7-8 years of progressive experience leading a successful, multifaceted enterprise, preferably in intercollegiate athletics. Must possess a broad understanding and firm commitment to NCAA and NIRA rules, regulations, and structure and a firm commitment to Title IX compliance.
Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree and demonstrated positive communication skills (including public relations and fundraising expertise) with a record of being a leader and spokesperson for a large organization; excellent interpersonal skills, business acumen and creativity required to generate revenue and manage resources effectively; and a record of achievement in NCAA and NAIA athletics administration.
