The L.A. Clippers play in the Pacific Division of the Western Conference of the National Basketball Association (NBA). The Clippers have won two division titles (2013, 2014) and are coached by Doc Rivers. Under the vision of owner Steve Ballmer, the Clippers have emerged as one of the most innovative franchises and business partners in basketball.
In addition to on-court success, the Clippers are committed to making a difference in Southern California through numerous community programs and the L.A. Clippers Foundation. On September 11, 2015, the Clippers Foundation made a historic three-year, $3 million commitment to City Year Los Angeles, providing City Year the capacity to improve the lives and graduation rates of students in five of L.A.’s highest need elementary schools. This is the largest donation City Year has received from the private sector, and is also the single largest cash gift in the history of the L.A. Clippers.
SUMMARY
The Director, Partnership Development will generate new revenue for the Los Angeles Clippers through the development of new corporate partnership sales. The new hire will engage new and existing strategic partners to drive business value across all platforms. Additionally, this position will be responsible for partnership strategy, business development and management of key relationships to ensure and bring value and profitability to the organization.
RESPONSIBILITIES
• Prospect new leads through outreach to strategically targeted corporations.
• Schedule meetings with potential partners.
• Work with strategic partnership department to develop wholly integrated marketing solutions.
• Assist in partnership concept ideations and creation of client proposal, sales and contract negotiations through to the close of new or renewed business.
• Be partner-focused and collaborate with current and potential partners to create new and innovative platforms which fit their unique business objectives.
• Work in a collaborative manner with other departments to build new business platforms.
• Manage sales pipeline through Microsoft Dynamics CRM.
• Present business updates, new opportunities and industry-driven initiatives to the management team and sales leaders as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
• 5-7 years related experience in sports sponsorship sales, with progressive revenue and management responsibilities. Longer tenured experience a plus.
• Bachelor’s degree from a four-year accredited college or university.
• Proven track record of successfully closing multiple complex sponsorship deals valued at no less than mid-six-figures annually. Candidates absent this proof will not be considered.
• Must possess a significant number of established relationships in the corporate industry.
• Knowledge of Southern California companies and marketplace.
• Ability to work with aggressive sales goals and manage several projects concurrently.
• Significant knowledge and understanding of marketing and media research.
• Ability to identify opportunities, develop strategies and negotiate creative solutions.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office, Microsoft Dynamics and KORE.
• Excellent interpersonal skills.
• Deep-running passion for sports and sponsorship.
• Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekends and evenings.
• Proactive, high energetic approach and drive to sell.
