Job Description:
Associate Director of Athletics provides management oversight for the functional areas of compliance, external relations and operations in the Athletics Department. Additionally, the incumbent supervises the coaching staff for specifically assigned men's and women's sports. This position assists the Director of Athletics in the development of the departmental budget and administers the budget for the assigned areas of responsibility. The incumbent is a member of the Athletics Department management team and assumes oversight of the Department in the absence of the Director.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
COMPLIANCE:
•Serve as athletics department Compliance Officer.
•Manage and oversee all components of athletics department compliance responsibilities under the guidelines of the NCAA and Northeast-10 Conference.
•Monitor, coordinate and verify Eligibility Center status of prospects.
•Serve on Athletics Recruitment committee, prepare weekly reports and assist with processing National Letters of Intent
•Provide compliance oversight and training of coaches and monitor CAi data entry.
•Respond to rules and interpretation requests from staff.
•Track student-athlete academic success, progress toward degree requirements and eligibility status.
•Communicate with faculty regarding team travel, student injury/missed classes and academic progress (First Alert)
EXTERNAL RELATIONS:
•Provide management oversight for annual alumni games, homecoming and special events.
•Supervise and collaborate with Coordinator of External Relations.
•Partner with Institutional Advancement, Alumni Office and Budget Office regarding athletics development and fundraising activities. •Review, approve and provide oversight for department and team fundraising plans as proposed by coaches and administrators.
•Manage and expand opportunities for athletics camps and clinics sponsored by the College.
•Serve as a liaison with representatives from City of Albany, school administrators, community groups and rental groups.
OPERATIONS:
•Oversee access to and use of on-campus and off-campus athletic facilities for intercollegiate practices, home contests and intramural events.
•Supervise and collaborate with Assistant AD for Operations as needed for securing facilities, preparing usage agreements, confirming insurance, securing necessary staffing and processing billing.
•Provide management oversight for home game administrators, game day staff and support services.
Requirements
• Bachelor's Degree required, Master's Degree preferred
• Minimum two years' experience overseeing all aspects of department compliance with NCAA regulations is required
• Experience managing student-athlete recruitment activities, eligibility and progress toward degree within NCAA guidelines
• Experience serving as an athletics department's Compliance Officer
• Experience using NCAA compliance tools such as CAi, LSDBi; experience with Frontrush or related software
• Experience with multiple sports home game administration and supervision of game day staff
• General knowledge of the principles of and practices for administration of an intercollegiate athletics program
• Experience with budget management and fundraising activities
• Strong organizational, written/oral, interpersonal communication skills; ability to manage a fast-paced work environment and meet time-sensitive deadlines
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with administration, faculty, staff, and students as well as the general public
• Supervisory experience
• Intermediate level computer skills using a Windows based operating system, specifically MS Word, Excel
• A valid driver's license
• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification (may be obtained upon employment)
• Flexibility to work daytime, evening and weekend hours as needed
• Ability to travel to conferences and seminars related to the position
Additional Information:
This is a full-time position. The work schedule includes daytime, evenings and weekends, consistent with the schedule of athletics events.
