Rockford University seeks an experienced and transformational leader as its next Director of Athletics. The Director of Athletics position serves on the Enrollment Management leadership team and is responsible for the overall direction and supervision of all 12 University NCAA Division III intercollegiate athletics programs. The position is responsible for all administrative, operational, and business functions of the athletics department in accordance with the policies set forth by the University Board of Trustees. The position is responsible for developing a program that values the academic achievements of University student athletes, athletic success and a positive student experience with a high level of integrity and competitiveness. Furthermore, the Athletic Director will promote sportsmanship, civility and inclusiveness. Rockford University is a member of the Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference (NACC) and this position serves as liaison to the conference and NCAA.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following:
• Provide direction and leadership for the University’s intercollegiate athletic intramural and wellness programs; supervise the work of coaches, administrators and trainers.
• Provide management and oversight on policy issues, academic and athletic performance, budgeting, fiscal management, scheduling, adherence to University policies, NCAA regulations, and conference regulations.
• Develop a comprehensive athletics strategic plan to achieve: o Increased competitiveness o Successful recruiting o Positive student experience inside and outside the classroom.
• Collaborate with University partners to support the intellectual, social, physical, emotional development of student athletes in the classroom and competition.
• Submit all required reporting to US Department of Education, NCAA and other governing bodies in timely fashion.
• As required, carry out responsibilities which include the following: planning, assigning, and directing work of others in the Department; appraisal of performances; addressing complaints and problem resolution.
• Handle related duties as assigned.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Director of Athletics has direct supervision of exempt and non-exempt employees including head coaches, administrators and trainers.
QUALIFICATIONS:
• Experience in planning, administration, personnel, facilities and fiscal management
• Experience with hiring, training and supervising coaches and other staff in a faced paced
• environment.
• Knowledge in complying with Title IX, ADA and other relevant federal and state laws
• Outstanding oral, written and interpersonal communication skills with unquestioned integrity and character.
• Possession of a valid driver’s license and personal automobile insurance
• Knowledge of intercollegiate athletics and the rule and regulations of NCAA Division III
• Must have a strong work ethic, have high energy and is a committed team player.
• Excellent leadership capabilities.
• Must be proficient in computer programs, including Microsoft Office.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
• Bachelor’s degree, Master’s degree preferred
• Minimum of five years of significant athletic administrative experience, preferably at the collegiate level.
• Experience with regulatory and compliance matters and with the complete array of fiscal and operational complexities of an intercollegiate athletics program is essential for success in this position.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
The physical and mental demands of this position are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential job functions. While performing the duties of this job, employee is regularly required to use hands to finger, handle, feel objects, tools, or controls, and talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and stand for extended periods of time. The employee may occasionally lift and/or move up to 30 pounds.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Employees work in a professional office environment, on competition and practice fields/courts and in the community. This position is highly visible to the campus and broader community. Normal office conditions prevail. Office work is performed primarily indoors. Ability to work in an office with a moderate noise level is required.
