Applications are being accepted for the position of director of athletics. This is a full-time position providing institutional leadership, in collaboration with the faculty, staff, and students to ensure a vibrant Athletics program in which Cornell student-athletes achieve their educational goals within a liberal arts college setting.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities:
Advance and support student-athlete recruitment and retention work, ensuring focused and regular collaboration between the Athletics Department staff and the Offices of Admission and Student Affairs. In conjunction with the Cornell faculty and staff, develop and promote the philosophies and practices that integrate the total athletics program into a liberal arts setting. Oversee operations, policies, and conduct of all sports in accordance with the rules and regulations of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), he Midwest Conference (MWC), and Cornell College. Collaboratively develop and recommend the short- and long-term strategic plans for the athletics program. Develop and assess program effectiveness on an annual basis. Oversee financial operations of the total athletics program; develop capital and operating budgets for sports and associated areas; and approve expenditures. Actively recruit, recommend hiring, supervise, and evaluate staff members in the Athletic Department, including non-coaching staff. Provide leadership and regular direction to the coaches and staff in their ongoing efforts to achieve departmental goals, and to contribute to institutional priorities. Work directly with the sports information director in the development and release of all sports promotional information, including sports programs, brochures, and news releases. Work directly with the athletics trainers in supervision of training room procedures and policies, student trainer supervision, and budget preparation. Oversee , enhancement and maintenance of all athletics facilities; Oversee operation of equipment room. Act as formal liaison to all departments on campus, including admissions, student affairs, facilities management, and faculty. Supervise direction of the Hilltop Fitness Club. Undertake some teaching and/or coaching responsibilities, as needed or assigned.
Student Learning & Success:
Provide leadership in creating a climate that supports diversity, respect, civility, and inclusion as well as speech. Actively pursue strategies to enhance academic achievement, engagement in experiential learning, and retention and graduation rates of student-athletes.
Student Recruitment & Retention:
Work closely with the Office of Admission, in leading the development of annual student recruitment goals and strategies by team. Work closely with the Office of Student Affairs in developing, implementing, and monitoring student retention efforts by team.
Advancement:
Work closely with the Office of Alumni and College Advancement to plan, coordinate, and implement departmental fundraising activities, including through the Golden Rams organization, in a manner consistent with Advancement policies and procedures. Supervise the development and coordination of alumni programs associated with athletics including Hall of Fame, C-Club, and the Cornell Golf Outing. Work with the Office of Alumni and College Advancement on various athletic-related Homecoming activities.

Qualifications
Master's degree and coaching experience required, higher education teaching experience preferred. A commitment to the values of Division III athletics at a liberal arts college, along with strong interpersonal skills, and the ability to operate within a team-oriented environment is essential. Successful candidates must have effective verbal and written communication skills, ability to work well with students, staff, faculty, and coaches, strong problem solving skills, and the ability to collaborate and positively influence public relations between the Athletics Department, the campus, and the local community.
