The Director of the Green Wave Club is a full-time professional fundraising position reporting to the Assistant Athletics Director for Development in Tulane Athletics. The Director is responsible for directing all Green Wave Club (Athletics annual fund) efforts including all solicitations, correspondence, benefit fulfillment, and special events, and will serve as primary contact and liaison for all Athletics annual fund efforts. The position works closely with assigned senior development officers to identify prospective donors, cultivate donor relationships, and solicit donations or gifts from individuals, corporations, or foundations. The Director focuses on growth of leadership annual fund gifts, and coordinates with supervisor to identify and cultivate major gift prospects for Athletics. The position supervises the Assistant Director of the Green Wave Club - Development Officer.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Identifies, cultivates, and solicits donations or monetary giving commitments from donors. Maintains a monthly minimum level of appointments or calls. Monitors activities to determine effectiveness and maximize contributions. Personally visits donors as directed or as appropriate in an effort to promote fundraising efforts and coordinates with supervisor when necessary. Maintains a minimum of 100 face-to-face visits annually focusing on all aspects of the Tulane Athletics Fund. Solicitations should include but are not limited to the Tulane Athletics Fund, the Helluva Hullabaloo and other event sponsorships and premium seating in Yulman Stadium, Avron B. Fogelman Arena in the Devlin Fieldhouse and Greer Field in Turchin Stadium. (50%)
2. In conjunction with the Assistant Athletics Director for Development, prepares an annual work plan outlining strategic initiatives, correlating gift table, and prospect pipeline to successfully reach annual donor and dollar goals. Manages Tulane Athletics Fund staff as well as overall annual fundraising operations, which include, but are not limited to direct mail solicitations, phone-a-thon solicitations, and Tulane Athletics Fund events. Supervises the Assistant Director of the Green Wave Club – Development Officer and assists with the development, planning, and staging of other departmental special events and fundraisers. Assists with establishing annual departmental development goals based on donor and prospect history, Athletics needs and revenue opportunities and incorporates these into the development program and strategies. Acts as liaison with assigned Central Development personnel to coordinate athletics annual fund efforts. Provides direction and resources to development staff and communicates with supervisor regularly on progress. (75%)
3. Identifies, cultivates and solicits for leadership annual fund gifts and helps create a pipeline for major gifts. (10%)
4. Ensures that all Department of Athletics and University related activities operate in full compliance with university, conference and NCAA rules and regulations. Attends and participates in scheduled compliance seminars and complies with all the Athletic Department’s efforts to monitor compliance with NCAA regulations. Seeks interpretations from the compliance staff before acting when necessary. Reports potential rules violations immediately. Completes required compliance paperwork in a timely and efficient manner. Monitors all of their areas and/or programs activities closely to maintain compliance with applicable rules and regulations. (10%)
5. Performs other related duties as requested or required, whether or not specifically mentioned in this job description. Exhibits a willingness to assume additional duties and responsibilities to assist the Assistant Athletic Director for Development in the performance of his or her responsibilities. (5%)
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
1. Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years’ experience direct fundraising in college athletics or transferable experience; or High School diploma or equivalent and 9 years’ direct fundraising in college athletics or transferable experience
2. Experience writing and preparing fundraising solicitations and newsletters.
3. Ability to interact effectively and diplomatically with external constituencies and prospective donors.
4. Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, public speaking and presentation skills.
5. Excellent organizational skills, to include the ability to prioritize projects and meet established deadlines.
6. Extremely organized, self-starter, intrinsically motivated
7. Proficient computer skills including word processing and spreadsheets
8. Availability to work flexible work schedule including nights and weekends
9. Travel with sport teams for away contests
10. Thorough knowledge of NCAA and American conference rules and regulations
