Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University is seeking a Director of Development for Athletics.
The Director of Development for Athletics solicits major gifts, primarily on behalf of the Athletic Department on the Daytona Beach Campus. The director will be responsible for the strategic and effective management of a portfolio of current and prospective donors through identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship, and he/she will work in accordance with the policies, practices and protocols of fundraising best practices as established by the Office of Development and Alumni Relations. The director will engage in face-to-face visits intended to identify, cultivate, solicit and steward prospective and current donors who can support the initiatives of the athletic department and the University. In conjunction with the University’s development staff, the director will help plan and execute any capital campaigns targeted to support intercollegiate athletics. The director will also help encourage participation in the Eagle Athletic Association (athletic booster club), providing the appropriate follow-up and stewardship activities. The director will also support other fundraising initiatives of the athletic department, including golf tournaments, corporate sponsorships, the annual Blue & Gold Gala and any other fundraising events.
Manage a targeted group of major, annual and planned giving prospects. Developing and implementing fundraising strategies for each of these prospects and executing appropriate follow-up action needed.
Manage a large portfolio of donors and prospective donors. Tracking all proposals and report due dates and next steps. Work with the research staff to target, evaluate, and profile potential donors for inclusion into the fundraising reports and insure donor records are continually updated.
Work closely with the Senior Vice President of Development and Alumni Relations, the Athletic Director, and other senior administrative staff, to develop plans, set goals, monitor activities, and prepare action plans; prepare regular progress reports and overall evaluations of all fundraising activities.
Complete all required administrative duties in a timely and efficient manner, including entering contact reports, completion of travel reimbursement, monthly action plans, etc. Participate in special events for donor recognition.
Conducts or reviews research on prospective donors; develops and recommends approach strategy including setting dollar and/or participation goals.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree with 5-10 years of work related experience
Licenses, certificates, and /or security clearances:
Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) (preferred)
Required knowledge, skills and abilities:
Preference will be for a candidate that has worked in a fundraising capacity for an institution of higher education, with a specific preference towards those with specific experience in fundraising for Athletics in higher education.
Analytical skills with an in-depth knowledge of information systems and technical expertise with Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook/email, and other internet end-user applications.
