The Director of Athletics primary responsibility is the overall leadership and management of the athletics program, in a manner that upholds the Concordia College mission and the philosophy of the Department of Athletics.
The Director of Athletics is responsible to the Vice President for Finance for all phases of strategic planning, developing, implementing and administering the goals of the Athletics Department. The Director of Athletics oversees all phases of the athletics program in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Athletics.
The Director of Athletics is responsible for developing relationships with alumni, corporate sponsors and community partners, and increasing resources, including fund raising, to ensure the success of the athletics program.
The Director of Athletics serves as the athletics program liaison to the Offices of Advancement and Alumni Relations.
The Director of Athletics is responsible for ensuring a highly competitive, broad-based athletics program within the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference.
The Director of Athletics is responsible for establishing and encouraging an atmosphere of professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect among staff, coaches, student-athletes, the campus community, and local and regional stakeholders.
Responsibilities include:
Leadership and Management: • Provide leadership, management and administrative direction to the athletics department members and student-athletes • Direct, manage and supervise all phases of the administration of the athletics program • Provide leadership for and management of the athletics department’s personnel • Oversees all phases of the intercollegiate athletics program in collaboration with the Deputy Director of Athletics • Lead in strategic planning, developing, implementing and administering the goals of the athletics department • Ensure student-athlete well-being • Ensure program equity to include the application of Title IX legislation • Establish and encourage an atmosphere of professionalism, sportsmanship, and respect among staff, coaches, student-athletes, the campus community, and local and regional stakeholders • Ensure and sustain a competitive NCAA Division III athletics program • Lead in the recruitment, retention, and evaluation of athletics staff • Lead in the marketing and promotion of the athletics program • Provide leadership in public relations matters of the athletics department • Represent the athletics department as the liaison for the Offices of Advancement and Alumni Relations • Ensure that the athletics program is in compliance with all College, NCAA, and MIAC legislation • Represent the Athletics Department at the NCAA, MIAC, and selected College committees as requested/appointed • Work with the Faculty Athletics Representative on relevant matters • Responsible for scheduling approval; establishing and approving contracts for services; employment, evaluation and direction of athletic coaches and staff; athletic equipment; compliance; athletic training; strength and conditioning; sports information; and facilities planning and maintenance • Commit to the academic progress of student-athletes in conjunction with College faculty and staff • Develop strong and inclusive relationships within the athletics administrative leadership team
Fiscal Management: • Be fiscally responsible to create, adhere to and monitor an annual athletics department budget • Enhance athletic development, increase resources, and fund raising efforts.

Qualifications:
• Commitment to Concordia College’s mission
• Commitment to Concordia College’s Athletics Department philosophy
• Commitment to the NCAA Division III philosophy and to the role of intercollegiate athletics within higher education
• Master’s degree in relevant field, or a Bachelor’s degree and relevant experience at a level that equates to an advanced degree is required
• Experience as an athletics administrator at an NCAA member institution
• Experience in financial administration and fund-raising
• Knowledge and application of NCAA legislation
• Knowledge of program equity and Title IX legislation
• A demonstrated commitment to student-athlete well-being and academic progress
• The highest of personal integrity and ethical standards, including a commitment to the core values of Concordia College
• Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• A capacity to develop a strong and inclusive leadership team
• Ability to develop, create and implement long range strategic plans, including funding models, with identified opportunities to increase revenue streams
• Demonstrated skills to work collaboratively with Senior Administration
• Ability to communicate effectively with media, alumni, donors, athletics interests and other stakeholders
