Education/Experience:
• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from an accredited college or university required.
• Master’s degree in Accounting preferred.
• Minimum of ten years related experience in tax accounting required.
• Certified Professional Accountant (“CPA”) license required.
Basic Function:
Responsible for various duties within the Tax Department, including comprehensive tax planning and overseeing federal and state compliance for Partnerships, S-Corporations, LLC’s, Estates/Trusts, Individuals, and Exempt Organizations. Research and analysis of complex tax issues including entity selection and operational planning. Monitoring compliance with federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to The McNair Group (“TMG”) entities. Directly supervising one or more employees within the Tax Department.
Skills Required:
• Strong analytical and management skills with ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks.
• Experience with tax preparation software such as GoSystem required.
• Proficiency in data analysis and problem-solving.
• Proficiency in use of Microsoft Office software applications.
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to create and maintain solid working relationships across the organization.
• Excellent attention to detail and an ability to produce high-quality, accurate work within designated deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidential and/or proprietary information.
• Ability and internal drive to demonstrate a positive, winning attitude and a strong work ethic in the performance of all job responsibilities.
Job Function (duties and responsibilities):
• Review and/or prepare federal tax returns including partnership, S-corporation, not-for-profit, individual and trust returns, multi-state tax returns, Texas margin tax returns and all related items filed annually in addition to returns such as tax estimates, extensions and various state filing fees.
• Directly supervise one or more employees including assigning and prioritizing their workflow.
• Research various tax issues as they arise throughout the year, including strategic business structuring and transaction planning.
• Maintain and monitor a due date list for all tax filings and various other deadlines.
• Oversee providing tax information, including tax estimates as well as Schedule K-1s, to external partners in several partnerships.
• Utilize GoSystem tax return software and Great Plains accounting software in completion of routine duties.
• Coordinate and monitor federal and state tax audits.
• Monitor and evaluate federal and state tax law changes as they pertain to TMG entities.
• Interact with financial accounting, foundation and investment group personnel as may be required.
• Perform various other or additional duties that may be assigned from time to time by the Vice President, Tax.
• Position requires routine face-to-face personal interaction with other company personnel; therefore, job responsibilities must be physically performed in TMG offices and not in a telecommuting manner.
