Position Summary:
Under the general direction of the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Communications, responsible for administering the public relations arm of the athletics department within the rules of the NCAA, the American Athletic Conference and The University of Tulsa.
Characteristic Duties:
• Primary sport contact for men’s basketball, softball and cross country
• Secondary contact with football and oversees volleyball intern
• Assists with the overall operation of the athletic media relations office, and undertakes duties assigned by the Senior Associate Athletics Director for Communications
• Designs social network graphics
• Assists with the maintenance and updating of the official TU athletics web site and social networking sites
• Handles layout, design and editing of various sport publications
• Operates and manages computer stat programs for men’s basketball, softball and football (Stat Crew)
• Writes press releases, game notes, advances, previews, game recaps, special features for assigned sports
• Maintains updated records, statistics, photographic archives for assigned sports
• Promotes student-athletes of responsible sports through various media entities
• Serves as a liaison between the TU athletic department and media
• Procures media coverage for all assigned sports
• Serves as the primary contact for the American Athletic Conference and NCAA office for assigned sports
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 2-3 years of full-time experience in athletic media relations or sports information; excellent oral, written, and social media skills, strong work ethic and self-starter, excellent organizational skills and great attention to detail; willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends.
