The Ideal candidate will bring a strong background in Parks & Recreation Management and five years’ experience in management of community services programs including at least two years’ supervisory experience.
The City of Casa Grande Community Services Department consists of four general operational areas...parks, recreation, golf course and library. We have 27 parks (mini, neighborhood, community and regional), 2 libraries, 2 youth centers, a senior center and an aquatics center. Our recreational programming is extensive. Staff and department programs and activities have been honored with awards and other recognition numerous times over the years. The department has 50 regular employees and many temporary and part-time employees...the actual number of which varies depending upon the time of the year. The department’s FY2016/2017 annual base budget totals about $8.4 million and an additional $16 million dedicated for one-time construction costs for the recreation center.
The City of Casa Grande and its citizens have supported the construction of numerous parks, sport complexes, and recreation facilities. This commitment to the building of parks and creation of recreational opportunities continues to enhance the quality of life for our citizens, our neighbors in the surrounding community and the many tourists who come to enjoy our beautiful city. Departmental planning efforts have been outstanding, with the Community Services Master Plan adopted in 2007, and a Trails Plan adopted in 2008.
Several years ago, local voters approved bond funds to construct a new family recreation center. Residents were invited to participate in the recreation center feasibility study to identify those features and amenities that were important to include in the new center, and that study was concluded. A design/build team has been selected and design has commenced on the new community recreation center.
The new director will be tasked with overseeing the construction of the center and will be charged with developing a membership business model that consolidates the current recreation programming and operates the facility with no additional assistance from the general fund. Also on the new director’s plate will be ongoing efforts to improve the municipal golf course.
We anticipate applicants will have a Bachelor’s Degree in Parks & Recreation Management or related field and five years’ experience in management of community services programs including at least two years’ supervisory experience OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. CPRP certification is highly desirable.

Casa Grande is located in Central Arizona, about halfway between Phoenix and Tucson, at the junction of Interstates 10 and 8. Our population is about 52,000, but we are a trade and employment center for a much larger area population. Many factors, including our location, have resulted in solid, balanced growth over the past 20 years, with a good mix of residential, industrial and retail development.
