The Department of Athletics at Messiah College currently has an opening for the full time position of Head Men and Women's Swim Coach and Aquatics Director. The Head Coach serves as the program leader for Men/Women Swimming. As Head Coach, this individual is responsible for operating a program for student-athletes, with differing abilities and skills, and serving as a role model in meeting our complimentary goals in Athletics of “Pursuing Athletic Excellence…Developing Christian Character.” As Aquatics Director, the individual will also oversee the College's aquatics programs for students and community (including Swim Schools).
Required education: Bachelor's degree in related field, American Red Cross or YMCA certification in Life guarding; American Red Cross certifications in CPR, AED, First Aid, and WSI; Certified Pool Operator. Education preferred includes: Master's degree, ARC Lifeguard Instructor and CPR/AED/First Aid Instructor certifications- must be obtained within 1 year of hire.
Required experience: 2 years assistant coach experience; competitive swim experience required. Experience preferred includes: 1 year of head coach experience; 1-2 years of pool management experience.
Other requirements include: Ability to administer NCAA Division III intercollegiate Men/Women Swim programs, including recruiting, scheduling, budgeting, travel, and practice plans;
ability to coach, teach, and train student-athletes in skills and strategies specific to Men/Women Swimming to be competitive within the Middle Atlantic Conference; ability to establish appropriate and effective mentoring relationships with student-athletes; demonstrated knowledge and understanding of the stages of student development and the importance of holistic education; ability to be a team player within the Athletics Department and the College; solid judgment and problem solving skills; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; demonstrated commitment to continued learning/professional development (i.e., presentations, publications, serving on regional and/or national committees); and ability to administer aquatics program, including hiring, scheduling, budgeting, and planning appropriate programs.
