Description
• Contribute to Academy’s success by driving the design, planning and implementation of effective compensation programs
• Ensure compensation program offered will continue to support the organizations strategic objectives and market competitiveness
• Responsible for broad based and executive compensation program ensuring alignment with and support of our people-focused and results oriented culture
• Assess operational effectiveness and recommend changes or process improvements where necessary
• Lead the strategy and design of all non-executive compensation programs, including base pay, incentive programs, policy and procedures in order to maintain competitive position in the marketplace
• Manage the company’s executive pay programs, ensuring they are consistently administered in compliance with company policies and government regulations
• Prepare and present materials for Board of Managers committee meetings
• Continuously assess market practices, trends and regulatory environments related to compensation programs as align with the business strategy
• Responsible for the management and administration of all compensation processes including the planning and implementation of annual salary reviews, merit increases, promotion processes and incentive programs
• Lead review of current compensation structure using benchmark data, current business strategy and compensation philosophy, including grading, leveling of jobs
• Monitor and evaluate benchmark data, trend information and economic projections related to similar jobs in comparable industries and recommends changes as appropriate to establish and maintain a competitive external market position
• Effectively manage, lead, coach and mentor a high performing, innovative team
• Develop talent, build bench and technical skills with defined areas of responsibility
• Lead the development of tools and processes to deliver and administer compensation programs: monitor effectiveness and compliance with all policies and standards
• Interpret, and ensure compliance with, state and federal compensation-related laws
• Work with internal and external council as required to ensure compliance
• Ensure development and delivery of innovative communication and educational materials to improve understanding of programs and drive better engagement and understanding of incentive programs
• Educate and partner with senior leaders, recruiting leadership, HR business partner team, function and operational leadership to deliver compensation programs aligned with business needs
• Collaborate with finance, accounting, and legal departments on compensation-related activities and budget planning
• Maintain internal control documentation, effectively perform assigned internal controls, remediate internal control exceptions, and respond to internal and external audit requests
• Develop a thorough understanding of Academy’s policies, procedures, and safety rules

Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Economics, Mathematics, Retail or relevant field of study
• CCP, CEP, or GRP certifications preferred
• 7+ years of compensation experience
• 3+ years of experience as compensation manager
• Experience in a mid to large public company preferred
• Experience leading a team of various professional/technical backgrounds
• Strong understand of HRIS systems and processes as well as how to maximize systems to communicate the value of compensation to the individual and manager
• WorkDay experience preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to communicate complex concepts and analyses across all levels of the organization to influence others
• Ability to work well independently, as well as effectively contribute to a team environment
• Ability to prioritize workload, meet multiple deadlines simultaneously in a fast paced, frequently changing environment
• Superior business and financial acumen with excellent math, analytical, and problem solving skills
• Ability to flex between micro and macro level thinking and work with all levels of management
• Analytical with strong problem-solving abilities and creative resolution skills
• Ability to demonstrate strong understanding of internal customer demands and needs
• Ability to remain organized, pay attention to detail, and meet critical deadlines
• Strong Microsoft Office program experience, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
• Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties
