Job Title: Assistant Athletic Director for Communications Department: Athletics Position Reports To: Athletic Director FLSA: Executive
POSITION SUMMARY: Oversee all aspects of the Communications Department, with primary focuses in the following areas: Media Relations, Publications, Internet, Social Media, Branding, Multimedia, Budget Management and Staff Supervision.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education, Experience and Training:
Bachelor's degree in a field such as Journalism or Communications, master's preferred or equivalent experience. At least two years of full-time experience in Athletic Communications or a related field.
Knowledge, Skills, Ability:
Must have a strong background in writing, editing, design (print and web) and be able to oversee all publications produced by the Communications Department. Must be able to manage the Athletic Department web site and oversee production of all multimedia content. Must be able to develop and maintain strong relationships with members of the media, coaches and student-athletes, parents, fans and alumni. Must be able to supervise Communications staff.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Oversee all aspects of the Communications Department, with primary focuses in the following areas: Media Relations, Publications, Internet, Social Media, Multimedia, Branding, Budget Management and Staff Supervision (see details below).
Media Relations
Serve as primary media contact for men's basketball, women’s lacrosse and men's and women's cross country/track & field; oversee media relations for all 16 sports.
• Serve as on-campus host for all media
• Coordinate media interviews
• Produce official statistics and game notes for men's basketball
• Attend all men's basketball games; attend many other games (both home and away)
• Prepare news releases and articles for all sports
• Develop relationships with local, regional and national media outlets; pitch stories to media outlets; provide stories when requested by media
• Maintain historical records and statistics
• Take photos and video, and work with others to create this content
• Coordinate award nominations
Publications
• Design covers for season prospectus, record books, and game programs for men's basketball, women's basketball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men’s lacrosse, women’s lacrosse, volleyball and baseball
• Produce all content, edit, layout and design for men's basketball season prospectus
• Edit all content and oversee production of all season prospectus
• Work with graphic designer on production of marketing posters
• Produce materials for the Panther Club
Internet/Multimedia
Oversee all content on HighPointPanthers.com, including news and feature stories, photos, rosters, schedules and multimedia content
• Manage relationship and communicate with web site design/hosting company Side Arm Sports
• Supervise and edit content for all sports and the department on HighPointPanthers.com
• Produce all content related to men's basketball, women’s lacrosse and men's and women's cross country/track & field
• Maintain content for club sports on HighPointPanthers.com
• Oversee the content and quality control for all web streaming and video features
• Work with students in School of Communication (Sports Link) to produce additional video content
• Oversee official HPU Athletics accounts on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube
• Develop graphic templates (info graphics) for sport campaign utilization on Twitter and Facebook
• Market and grow web traffic on HighPointPanthers.com and social media account follower bases through innovative content
Branding
• Oversee the HPU Athletic Department brand standards with all sport programs and departments
• Create and implement campaigns that have the national brand and image of HPU Athletics
DECISION-MAKING RESPONSIBILITY:
Must be able to manage all aspects of the Communications Department, including where to allocate time and monetary resources as well as prioritize all areas of media relations, publications, Internet and multimedia. Manage operating budget, including selecting web site company and printing company, hiring outside photographers and designers, and purchasing equipment.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Supervise three full-time staff members as well as student workers and part-time staff (announcers, video assistants, scoreboard operators, photographers, etc.) when it pertains to Communications functions. Oversee all Communications activities during games and while performing office duties.
