Responsibilities:
The Director, Finance – Teams oversees accounting, financial reporting & financial planning activities for the MSG Sports Teams. The Director, Finance – Teams is responsible for MSG Sports SEC Reporting and MSG Sports consolidated internal financial reporting. The Director, Finance – Teams is responsible for all matters associated with the NBA, NHL, WNBA and AHL contractual player payments, including bimonthly payroll calculations, accounting and financial planning. The Director, Finance – Teams is also responsible for all NBA, NHL, WNBA, NBDL and AHL reporting.
• Responsible for the preparation of the Knicks, Rangers, Liberty & Westchester Knicks monthly financial statements, controller’s letter and all supporting scheduless
• Direct analysis of monthly results and variance reporting to management. Necessitates a high level of understanding of the business operations through continual communication with management / department heads. This understanding should be continually reflected in comprehensive and meaningful budget and forecast vs. actual analyses as well as identification and quantification of updates to financial results.
• Responsible for complete, up to date balance sheet analyses for all Rangers, Knicks, Liberty, Westchester and Wolfpack general ledger accounts.
• Responsible for completion of annual budget in timely, detailed manner including providing guidance and support for operating department heads
• Responsible for completion of forecasts and monthly outlooks
• Complete the bimonthly processing of basketball and hockey payroll (approximately 90 players) ensuring payments are made in accordance with the contract and roster data, and that proper tax rules and withholdings are applied
• Responsible for completion of annual NHL Hockey Related Revenue (HRR) and Unified Report on Operations reporting packages, manage audit process with NHL/NHL Players Association appointed independent accountants.
• Complete the detailed NBA revenue sharing calculation, which necessitates a deep knowledge of the NBA CBA and NBA reporting, as well as MSG’s accounting and recognition policies.
• Responsible for completion of annual NBA Basketball Related Income (BRI) and CFS reporting packages, manage audit process with NBA/NBA Players Association appointed independent accountants.
• Responsible for completion of annual Liberty stand-alone financial statements and submission to WNBA.Complete all NBA, NHL, WNBA, NBDL and AHL financial reporting packages and surveys.
• Work closely and collaborate with the other Director Finance – Teams
• Manage the day-to-day activities of the Manager, Accounting and Staff Accountant and ensure they are properly trained in the technical and business aspects of their job. Continually enhance professional development and growth of staff.
• Maintain the MSG Sports compensation model and complete compensation financial analyses
• Completion of MSG Sports SEC reporting schedules for public reporting and financial statement disclosures
• Prepare all schedules for Corporate Finance to assist in the quarterly reviews, year-end audits, corporate tax filings and financial statement disclosures.
• Assist with special projects
Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree
• 10+ years of relevant finance and/or accounting experience (public and/or private)
• Very strong analytical skills
• CPA/MBA a plus
• Exceptional organization skills with proven ability to prioritize near and long-term goals in order to meet deadlines
• Professional demeanor along with superior verbal and written communication skills
• Proficient in Excel and a strong working knowledge of accounting systems and other automated financial systems
