Position Summary:
• The Inbound Transportation Director reports to the Sr Director of Supply Chain Transportation and is responsible for all vendor freight transportation requirements; including operational oversight and fiscal responsibility (~$40M annual spend, 40 plus logistics partners) for these activities.
• The scope of the role includes the management of International Air & Ocean Freight, International Deconsolidation Operations and Domestic Truckload, Intermodal, LTL and Consolidation Operations.
• He / She will take a collaborative approach and will be accountable for creating plans to develop and integrate the capabilities of the transportation organization in line with our sourcing team’s strategy and the Supply Chain Mission.
• The Inbound Transportation Director ensures that internal and external customers receive the highest level of service, makes decisions that maximize the operation’s performance, develops and manages Carrier performance, network design & partner strategy and builds strong associate work teams with a positive work environment.
Essential Functions:
• Manage the direct and indirect partners responsible for retail product movement from Vendor.
• Develop and manage relationships, programs and processes to support the execution of the Sourcing teams and Buyer’s overall strategy, including planning and forecasting to support current requirements and future growth.
• Leverage technology to improve capability and service, provide better integration with inbound reporting, exception management and optimization processes.
• Develop and execute annual inbound transportation budgets.
• Collaborate with outbound team to ensure maximum utilization of backhaul.
• Ensure company and vendor compliance with all transportation laws and regulations.
• Manage supplier program to ensure service levels are consistently exceeded at the most effective costs; includes relationship management and performance management aligned with operational planning and execution.
• Manage and support the periodic sourcing of suppliers and contract / rate negotiation to ensure operating expenses are within budgetary guidelines and appropriate capacity exists to meet demand.
• Work closely with Trade and Vendor Compliance teams and drive appropriate policies governing chargeback requirements, processes and execution.
• Works closely with the Supply Chain Analytics team driving network design, new programs, cost and service improvements International
• Promote a desire and commitment for continuous improvement:
• Perform reviews of delivery network with Internal customers covering Vendor and Carrier performance opportunities.
• Work with Vendors and Carriers to maximize proper utilization and reduce transportation costs through optimization activities to drive cost reduction and/or service improvements (LTL consolidation, Trailer Orchestration of Inbound deliveries at DC, etc.)
• Ensure standardization and sharing of best-demonstrated practices among the operation.
• Ensures compliance with key company standards of safety and management.
• Support the development of strategy and future capabilities as it pertains to the company’s short and long-term strategic direction.
• Support and drive the development and attainment of short and long-range goals and objectives. Review and analyze activities, costs, operations, and forecast data to determine progress toward stated goals and objectives.
• Evaluate and recommend new or revised relationship / compliance processes and procedures to ensure compliance with established standards.
• Ensure information connectivity between suppliers, service providers, distribution and logistics and stores.
• Develop expense and capital budgets, controls, and measurements to monitor progress, including service-level agreements. Ensure proper accounting treatment is attained and report status to appropriate stakeholders.
• Ensure effective and timely communication between the department and supply chain management, the network of distribution centers, carriers and various corporate departments to guarantee coordination of efforts.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Education / Experience Requirements:
Minimum Education & Experience:
• BA / BS Degree
• Minimum 10 Years of transloading, supply chain operations or supply chain planning experience including 5 years of strategic leadership experience.
• Experience with both Domestic and International Transportation shipping systems and network mgmt.
• Prior experience effectively working across organizations from all functions, particularly in planning, forecasting and supply chain. Ability to persuade and influence others, collaborative, accountable for results, impeccable record of delivering on their promise.
Preferred Education & Experience:
• BA/BS in Business, Engineering, Logistics / Supply Chain Management or equivalent.
Knowledge / Skills Requirements:
• Ability to work effectively across organizations among suppliers, supply chain, eComm and stores; ability to create strong, trust-based relationships with these constituents.
• Well-developed analytical skills with reference to merchandise, vendors and freight; identification and development of transportation trends; transportation systems operations; and expense control efforts.
• Ability to persuade and influence others, collaborative, accountable for results, impeccable record of delivering on their promise.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• A champion on new initiatives with an ability to successfully work across different groups, and to execute by bridging functional and divisional silos
