POSITION PURPOSE:
The purpose of this role is to assist the Company with the oversight and review of income tax accounting including but not limited to assisting with the income tax sections of the quarterly and annual SEC filings, maintaining the tie-outs and backup workpapers for all deferred tax balances, calculating and providing to FP&A the forecasted tax rates, and assisting Investor Relation’s with compiling various tax data. Position will oversee the Company wide maintenance of tax fixed assets, tax intangible amortization schedules and tax impacts of stock compensation. Position will work with accounting to ensure new ASU pronouncements are implemented appropriately for tax.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES:
• Lead the preparation of the annual and quarterly global tax provision, including the tax-related financial statement disclosures and SOX documentation.
• Determine the effective tax rate and related disclosures.
• Identify and document book-to-tax differences, reconcile tax filings to tax provisions and test deferred tax balances.
• Reconcile income tax payable and deferred tax accounts.
• Update and maintain documentation in support of various tax attributes, including tax loss carryforwards, valuation allowances and tax credits.
• Identify and document uncertain tax positions.
• Handle compliance with all intercompany agreement requirements, calculations, and payments.
• Incorporate tax accounting for mergers and acquisitions into financial reporting.
• Research and resolve tax technical and tax accounting issues and draft relevant memos.
• Handle relationship with third party auditors and tax advisors.
• Coordinate with Investor Relations team to ensure proper tax information is being provided.
• Oversee the tax calculation and reconciliation of fixed assets.
• Consider tax accounting implications of company initiatives.
• Identify changes in tax laws and regulations and their application to the company.
• Performs other job duties as required.
Required Skills:
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
• BS in Accounting from an accredited college or university
• Masters in Taxation or LLM preferred
• CPA certified or eligibility to take the CPA exam a plus
Experience:
• Minimum 12 years of related work experience in public accounting and/or private industry
Knowledge:
• Strong knowledge of ASC 740, FIN 48, and FAS 5
• Strong Knowledge of Accounting Concepts under US GAAP
• Strong working knowledge of excel
• Knowledge of Onesource tax return software a plus
• Working knowledge of SAGE Fixed Asset System a plus
Skills/Abilities:
• Strong interpersonal skills to build relationships throughout the UNFI tax, accounting, and finance organization
• Strong process management and documentation skills and the ability to complete multiple assignments in a timely manner
• Ability to expertly represent the tax department when interacting with management, outside advisors, and other functions within the company
• Ability to respond to inquiries from management, internal customers, external auditors, and federal and state taxing authorities
