Job Description
General Summary:
The Family Dollar Director of Replenishment is responsible for guiding, directing and monitoring an inventory management team that handles inventory planning, replenishment of merchandise, and systemization through the analysis, implementation and use of store and warehouse inventory management systems. This position must ensure the DCs continuously have the minimum level of inventory on hand required to meet service-level and turn objectives while delivering Store In-Stock goals. The Director of Replenishment should ensure that systems and programs are sufficient to meet the company’s inventory needs. This position must independently develop strategies and tactics for improving operation efficiencies and service levels while reducing inventory levels and operation costs.
The Director of Replenishment provides leadership to the inventory management team and assumes responsibility for the functional and financial control of the department including development and management of an annual business plan and budget. This position is responsible for embracing Family Dollar’s store-centric commitment to customers, customer service and sales.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
1. Oversee the company’s basic inventory and service levels/in-stock position to ensure smooth flow of merchandise into and out of the DCs and stores
2. Coach, direct and manage the Replenishment Management team.
3. Lead the transition from domestic to import for all Basic skus with Global Sourcing to ensure that DC Service Levels/Store In-Stocks remain above goal during the transition period and beyond.
4. Manage the purchases and inventory flow for over 90% of Family Dollar’s advertised sku count.
5. Partner with VMI Suppliers to ensure that DC Service Levels and DC Turns remain above target.
6. Ensure proper merchandise support of sales, promotions and special events
7. Aggressively manage unproductive inventory, identify trends and develop recommendations to correct issues
8. Ensure accuracy of replenishment transfers and purchases to support service level and inventory productivity targets
9. Monitor store level inventories to make certain they are in line with the company’s objectives in terms of store in-stock, visual presentation and turn goals
10. Identify and recommend solutions to supply exceptions and related issues
11. Act as the primary point of contact within Replenishment in support of the inventory and purchasing planning process
12. Develop and manage key vendor relationships
13. Effectively communicate with vendors and ensure compliance with Family Dollar’s policies
14. Develop, adapt and improve exception management tools for replenishment team to monitor workloads, DCs, and store service levels (i.e. information or feedback to identify service level issues in the DC)
15. Ensure replenishment team appropriately utilizes available tools to respond to exception questions
16. Train and develop team in how to use available tools to attain top performance and effectiveness
17. Develop processes and tools to monitor replenishment orders and communicate with other departments as needed (DC transportation, Allocation, DC operations, Planning, Merchandising, etc.)
18. Create and maintain strong working relationships with internal departments that interface with Replenishment
19. Work with Replenishment Managers to manage the replenishment team and ensure adherence to exceptions management
20. Continuously look for ways to improve the processes that surround production and service level
21. Select, hire, coach, train and develop a highly qualified replenishment management team
22. Other job-related duties as assigned
Position Requirements:
Office work environment, 40+ work hours per week
Minimum Requirements:
Education: Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university or equivalent experience / training; MBA preferred
Experience: Six (6) or more years of related retail work experience in the areas of allocation and/or replenishment. Broad
experience managing people; the ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience managing a group of more
than three individuals. The ideal candidate will have at least two years of experience managing Replenishment of
Imported items at a Fortune 500 Retailer.
Job Related Skills: Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
Computer Skills: Must be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including Excel, Access, Power Point and Word. Ability
to develop, manipulate, format and share spreadsheets for the purpose of analysis
