Job Description
General Summary:
The Director of Inventory Control works in the Finance Shared Services organization of Family Dollar. This position is responsible for managing the Inventory Control and Inventory Operations teams for conducting physical inventories and building inventory related processes, physical inventory metrics and shrink reporting, new projects as well as department process improvement. This individual must have a strong understanding of retail operations and inventory accounting. They are responsible for all reporting and analytics as well as supporting month end close for the team. They must utilize existing systems and understand how to develop reporting through new systems. This position is also responsible for inventory related projects and will represent the team through company initiatives. And, they will be responsible for implementing special projects for the department as needed.
Principal Duties & Responsibilities:
• Inventory Processes:
◦ Responsible for physical inventory scheduling, inventory performance reviews and SOX related controls around the physical inventory process.
◦ Thorough understanding of Family Dollar’s merchandise inventory processes including DC shipments, direct to store billings and store cycle count programs.
◦ Review and distribution of all inventory control and shrink reporting to Family Dollar’s store operations and loss prevention teams as well as finance and other leadership.
◦ Partner with Store Operations and Loss Prevention for shrink prevention and reduction processes.
◦ Managing vendor relationships and expense related to third party services.
◦ Thorough understanding of all inventory data, internal department reports, criteria and structure.
◦ Responsible for the data integrity of Family Dollar’s financial stock ledger and supporting processes.
◦ Responsible for the financial integrity of corporate store inventory, recall inventory and supporting processes.
◦ Thorough understanding and review of financial stock ledger and perpetual financial inventory.
• Special Projects:
◦ Work as a liaison between the Inventory Control department and technology partners.
◦ Ability to work with cross-functional teams to provide an understanding of finance business processes.
◦ Must be able to create new processes and lead others through change by developing and maintaining standard operating procedures and training other team members.
• Training and Development:
◦ Lead the Inventory teams to continually improve internal processes for their organization.
◦ Drive productivity and performance of the team and support their professional development.
• Review and implement store and corporate procedures related to data integrity of billings, financial and replenishment inventory.
• Responsible for delivering month end closing financial entries to accounting.
• Recruit and hire Inventory Operations and Inventory Control team members as needed.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization.
• Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
Education: College Degree in Accounting/Finance are related field required. Master’s Degree in Business or related field preferred.
Experience: At least ten (10) years related work experience in retail inventory, financial analysis or related field.
