Job Description Details
As the Director of Enterprise Data Warehouse/Big Data, this role will be accountable for identifying and driving strategic direction for all initiatives within the enterprise data warehouse/big data function. This includes creating technology road maps, through partnership with business stakeholders and other technology leaders, creating highly effective, high performing teams and solving business problems with ML/AA that drive customer experience, customer marketing, merchandising, planning and bring efficiencies within supply chain and fulfillment.
Responsibilities
• Create, communicate, and implement the organization’s vision, mission and overall strategic direction in the data warehouse/big data space.
• Designs and sets objectives and participates/contributes to setting division and/or corporate-related goals.
• Lead long term strategic investments in big data, machine learning, and advanced analytics.
• Develop best practices in the team and keeping an eye on the state of the art and modern big data/AA techniques, tools and best practices that are relevant to retail industry.
• Accountable for the technical direction of the group, leveraging own experience, technical experts and fostering technical innovation.
• Partner with technology leadership team to evaluate and select new technology solutions.
• Directs teams, ensuring they are working together effectively.
• Partners with and integrates across other areas of the company, resolving conflicts and managing competing priorities, to provide a complete solution.
• Continuously evaluate our core technology processes and look for opportunities to streamline and add greater value.
• Possesses advanced understanding of the client areas supported including their functional processes, business objectives and organizational dynamics.
• Stays up to date on the activities of competitors and the industry in general both for IT and QRG. Maintains a thorough and current understanding of best practices in the technology industry and implements as appropriate in their technical/functional area.
• Possesses knowledge about QRG’s business, including the key work processes and success factors of different units and functions.
• Work with senior leadership on organization design and execution.
• Leverage technical knowledge, domain/business knowledge to implement strategies to attract, retain, motivate and develop talent in their organization. Makes hiring decisions.
• Responsible for all performance-related activities, including performance reviews and any disciplinary recommendations.
• Ensures quality, compliance and fiscal standards are met for the department.
• Develops department budget and ensures budget objectives are achieved through managers and other team members.
• Define, build, communicate and manage clear business metrics and service level agreements.
• Participates in planning and review of potential mergers and acquisitions.
• Other duties, responsibilities, and activities as assigned.
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in computer sciences or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of professional experience developing and deploying data, data warehouse and algorithm driven software products at scale in production
• 10+ years of managing teams of IT software engineers in the data warehouse/big data space, and building high performing teams.
• Minimum experience of 2 large scale full life cycle data warehouse/big data implementations with one of those experiences with big data and cloud data warehouse. And one of these experiences serving in IT leadership role.
• Strong experience in machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or another quantitative field
• Comprehensive knowledge of modern and cutting-edge big data and Advanced Analytics techniques, tools, and best practices
• Experience in large scale distributed services on GCP/AZURE/AWS
• Avid proponent of data and being able to clearly define the business value from the data.
• Strong coding, analytical and experimental design experience
• Strong ability to think big and follow through on delivering significant business innovation
• Experience working in a highly agile software development environment
• Pragmatism & philosophy of continuous improvement
• Responds to industry trends and is able to integrate them into the business to drive innovation.
• Challenges the status quo. Makes appropriate decisions and quickly makes changes as needed to support business needs.
• Track record of experimenting, building, and learning new things.
Preferred Qualifications
• Master's Degree in machine learning, artificial intelligence, statistics, or another quantitative field
• Experience building large scale retail technology a big plus.
• Broad working knowledge of Retail industry business processes is preferred.
