Position Summary
The Senior Medical Director is responsible for ensuring that patients at MinuteClinic receive high quality, accessible and clinically rigorous care. Reporting to the MinuteClinic Chief Medical Officer, the Senior Medical Director will supervise MinuteClinic’s national panel of collaborating physicians and the physician management team. He/she will have responsibility for developing innovative care models and incorporating new products and technologies.
The Sr. Medical Director will manage, develop and oversee key clinical programs, working closely with the Chief Medical Officer, the Chief Nurse Practitioner Officer, and external networks (vendors, key opinion leaders, etc.).
The Senior Medical Director will demonstrate proficiency in practice, planning, and self-direction in goal setting Candidates must be board-certified in Family Practice or Internal Medicine with leadership experience and have administrative capabilities.
1. Directs the hiring and on-going management of entity owners, medical directors and other physician staff
• Works with the CVS legal team to identify medical oversight requirements in each state. Identifies if state requires a medical Professional Corporation owner (PC owner) to operate medical clinics in the state.
• Leads the staff responsible for hiring, orienting and training medical directors to ensure we are in compliance with all regulations regarding collaborating physicians.
• Establishes and monitors medical director compliance with policies and procedures.
2. Oversees physician clinical services across MinuteClinic
• Responsible for clinical care delivered by physicians
• Member of the organization’s credentialing body
• Leads the physician management team responsible for collaborative practice agreements between physicians and MinuteClinic providers
3. Clinical Safety.
• Work closely with the CVS patient safety organization and other internal quality assurance bodies to ensure the safety of clinical care delivered at MinuteClinic.
4. Develop and maintain strategic partnerships.
• Work closely with outside partners to build strategic partnerships
• Identify potential partnerships that would be beneficial to achieve our strategic and operational objectives.
• Maintain positive relationships with partners. Measure partnership success.
• Values working partnerships with Nurse Leaders, nurse practitioners and physician assistants.
5. Responsible for the planning, directing, coordinating and evaluating the overall clinical practice model in collaboration with the Chief Nursing Practitioner Officer.
• Develops and implements clinical practice protocols in collaboration with operations management.
• Researches clinical best practices and updates and refines clinical protocols.
• Ensures the electronic medical record (EMR) thoroughly documents clinical guidelines.
• Ensures development and implementation of quality improvement program
6. Researches new products and services
• Researches new product ideas which can be delivered
• Works closely with operations and product development to develop the product and service ideas into actual deliverables.
Required Qualifications
Position requires a minimum of 10 years of clinical and administrative experience in the health care arena Applicants should be recently or currently clinically active.
Current and on-going license to practice medicine in at least one state, Drug Enforcement Agency certification, board certification in a primary care field specialty. The Sr. Medical Director will need to meet the MinuteClinic credentialing standards.
Specific expertise is essential in the areas of developing and leading teams building collaborative relationships, spearheading clinical systems improvement, impacting HEDIS/ healthcare quality, navigating information systems technology and managing physicians and physician leaders. Excellent problem solving capabilities in ambiguous situations and with incomplete information is required. Ability to manage multiple priorities and resolve conflicts in a timely manner. Consensus builder who leads through influence and is an effective communicator.
Preferred Qualifications
* Two-plus years of healthcare leadership experience preferred
* Strong familiarity with primary care practice preferred
Education
• Medical degree and board certification in a primary care specialty: family medicine, internal medicine or geriatrics.
