Director of Distribution for Cabela's DC in Prairie du Chien, WI
Position Summary:
Ensures the efficient operation of the distribution and fulfillment (D&F) function by directing the management of an assigned Distribution Center and coordinating and integrating D&F and Returns operations consistent with Corporate and Retail business strategies. In addition, leads and manages Distribution Support Operations to establish and continually enhance processes that meet required Retail and Direct service level requirements; negotiates and evaluates small parcel carrier contracts to support
domestic and international distribution; assures accuracy of D&F inventory management of multi-channel sales; and leads or partners on cross functional initiatives to improve service and cost.
Key Responsibilities:
• Improves Merchandise Performance by developing strategic carrier vendor partnerships to support parcel deliveries within the budget. Utilizes multiple carriers and rate shopping software to analyze, negotiate and measure performance standards and carrier rates to ensure the most cost effective delivery methods are being maintained all the while remaining compliant with Cabela's customer service delivery standards. Oversees the daily freight bill audit team and discrepancy reconciliation with vendors. Support CRD with Direct Service Level reporting and oversight. Tracks, reports and implements damaged freight claims and customer service agreements.
• Leads the Multi-Site Inventory Control Teams to ensure timely and accurate cycle counts, adjustments and high dollar inventories are completed. Reviews DC lock codes to ensure product allocability to enhance sales. Develops reports and advises Distribution Directors on inventory programs and initiatives.
• Improves retail profitability by ensuring the efficient and timely flow of goods from the distribution network and Cabela's vendors to the retail stores. Coordinates with Inventory Control, Distribution Centers, Logistics and Retail Backroom Management to coordinate the timely release of demand related merchandise and receipt to support a flow of product that best enables retail to resume a high level of in-stock percentages prior to the highest retail demand days. Actively monitors retail out-of-stock percentages and advises Inventory Control Teams on the correct replenishment paths and order level quantities to reduce these out-of -stocks.
• Leads, participates and guides external business units as it pertains to Supply Chain and Logistics involvements in the development of ERP projects. Acts in a stake holder and/or champion capacity in the implementation of TMS, Ship from Stores, ISP store fulfillment and SAP related installations.
• Leads and manages distribution procurement team to ensure that the most current procurement rates and quality assurance standards are maintained. Continually vets potential vendor developed products and submits RFP's to reduce net expenditures on corrugated and supply items.
• Ensures the efficient operation of the distribution and fulfillment (D&F) function by directing the management of an assigned Distribution Center and coordinating and integrating D&F and Returns operations consistent with Corporate and Retail business strategies.
• Provides leadership that enhances the engagement and development of the management team and associates by setting clear goals and expectations, coaching and assessing individual and group performance, and utilizing available corporate resources to give direction and support to meet established goals for performance and safety.
• Facilitates and coordinates Canadian postage and foreign shipping related issues for international customers.
Required Education/Skills/Experience:
• Bachelor degree with a concentration in a business or technical discipline (Business Management, Industrial Engineering, logistics or Operations Management) highly preferred.
• Eight plus years’ experience at a manager level or higher in a retail production/distribution environment.
• Experience in leading exempt team members of at least three or more.
• Excellent communication skills with strengths in associate engagement.
• Excellent interpersonal and leadership skills to motivate, direct and develop team members
• Working knowledge of Manhattan WMS to work in conjunction with the Super User.
• Strong project and time management skills, organizational, planning, and expediting skills.
• Must have strong PC and internet skills; including MS, Word, Excel & Power Point.
