Position Description
You will be leading Walmart’s the IoT design team. The team’s charter is to drive product evolution by leveraging emerging technologies in the IoT space like voice, computer-vision based commerce experiences and other emerging technologies to enrich customer experience. This is an opportunity to be at the cutting edge of ecommerce with the largest retailer in the world.
As Design Director, you will shape, influence and execute on strategy and act as the voice of the customer to inspire product management, business, and engineering teams. This is a senior-level role requiring significant responsibility, creativity, technical expertise, and business sense.
Responsibilities:
• Recruit and foster extraordinary talent, by coaching and guiding your team along their professional development journey.
• Provide overall direction & guidance for a seasoned team of designers, helping them negotiate a rapidly evolving environment with complex demands.
• Establish and communicate effective design processes, based your knowledge of great user-centered design principles and your practical experience with how a design team operates effectively in an agile project environment.
• Champion a culture that embraces design thinking and agile methods.
• Develop & drive the end-to-end user experiences and strategy for multiple products & platforms and garner support for this vision among your organizational peers.
• Use data & insights (for example, usability study findings, shop-along data, market research findings as well as spikes in sales data, traffic, abandonment, engagement) to inspire new design directions, and teach your team to do the same.
Minimum Qualifications
• Bachelor's Degree in Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Psychology, Information Science, Design, Communications, English, Writing, or related field and 7 years user experience design or related field OR 11 years experience in user experience design or related field.
• 6+ years of supervisory experience.
Additional Preferred Qualifications
• Masters Degree in Cognitive Science, Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Architecture, Business, or related field.
• 8 years experience in software design or related field.
• 6 years experience in eCommerce or related field.
• 2 years experience developing user experience solutions with agile methodology
• 2 years experience designing front-end user experience solutions for consumer software development using modern web technologies such as AJAX, Ruby on Rails, or related skill.
