Position Summary
The Director, Graphics & Art provides the leadership necessary to deliver all print media, the majority of which is the Williams-Sonoma brand catalogues, ensuring all are fully aligned with the brand's aesthetic, strategic and financial goals. This spectrum of support includes providing art direction on all catalogues and magalogs, managing editorial timelines and deadlines for production. In partnership with Brand Creative leadership, this role specifically achieves business results by ensuring our ability to attract and engage customers supporting our mission of being the leader in cooking and entertaining in the world, by delivering great product, world-class service, and engaging content, built around a community. This position manages a team of designers and reports to a VP, Brand Creative.
Specific Responsibilities
• Set creative direction for all print materials for the Williams-Sonoma brand, including each seasonal catalog, all specialized magalogs, and special projects as required. Creative output must be compelling and engage the customer in wanting to learn and experiment with food and cooking tools.
• Raises the bar on catalog aesthetic by working closely with cross-functional teams and influencing the overall editorial look and feel, improving the value of the catalog to the customer.
• Provide day-to-day management across the business and operational functions of catalog design and production to ensure that projects and brand efforts are functioning at highest levels and delivered at the highest standards that time, direction and budget allow.
• Influence vision, direction and goals for the Design team, aligning them behind the clearly set creative direction while driving the motivation and passion to deliver on outstanding results; and grooming his / her directs reports for career path growth, and ensuring that the department is supported to allow for the finest creative solutions that time and budget allow.
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• 10+ years experience in Graphic Design
• Proven track record of producing outstanding, industry leading creative
• Excellent business acumen, with a sensitivity and appreciation of the creative process and product
• Ability to interface with interdepartmental heads as a respected colleague
• Ability to lead and inspire teams across operational spectrum
