QVC’s customer loves the latest in Home Décor, and we want to give her more of what she wants! QVC has an exciting opportunity for a seasoned Merchant to lead Home Décor – Everyday, Seasonal and Garden. Reporting to the VP Home, the Director will own and drive the strategy to grow and elevate the Home Décor business. You will be responsible for business results and will guide your merchant team in identifying and negotiating price and terms, buying, developing and executing new products, concepts, shows and ideas that will exceed the expectations of our discerning customers. You will use your deep business expertise to analyze and get ahead of sales trends and be aware of inventory levels within Home so that the assortment stays fresh and relevant. As a senior leader, you will play a critical role in attracting, hiring and developing talent and enhancing team culture within our values-driven organization. You will work cross-functionally to plan and improve the Home business, maximize opportunities and boldly color in the white space. We want a BUILDER who can operationalize ideas and strategy and then execute and drive success. The Director position is based at Qurate Retail Group’s corporate headquarters in suburban Philadelphia and requires approx. 8 – 10 weeks over travel per year, including overseas travel.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Set and maintain the vision of the category and team.
• Identify new and current market trends and take action based on them.
• Seek a balance of new and relevant designer and national brands to meet customers’ needs and aspirations.
• Identify opportunities for emerging brands that that QVC can own and take to retail.
• Ensure that TSV’s and key items are developed in a timely and consistent way that support base business and emerging trends.
• Develop innovative and creative ways to generate sales without Air Time. Develop new concepts and experiences that will inspire the core customer and attract new customers.
• Strategically lead the success of the category and brands by developing and driving a long-range business plan that meets or exceeds QVC’s financial goals.
• Build and maintain vendor education and communication direction and tools to support a productive vendor community relationship.
• Strengthen existing vendor alliances through strategic planning sessions.
• Own the vendor contract process from internal Legal coordination through executed contract.
• Identify and develop relationships with key vendors within each market to provide credibility and leadership for our customers.
• Annually develop and gain approval for long-term merchandising strategies and help prioritize annual initiatives to support these Brand strategies and to increase earnings.
• Develop sound business plans and be accountable for sales, productivity, and inventory management.
• Motivate, coach and inspire all functional teams to drive for results. Act as a positive and solution-oriented role model. Create and maintain a learning environment where the development of employees is a priority. Lead change to move the organization forward.
• Active and thoughtful partner to all levels of leadership as well as senior team.
• Foster an environment that grows and challenges high potential employees through stretch assignments while acting quickly on employees whose work consistently falls below standards.
• Utilize strong interpersonal skills to influence and gain commitment from key stakeholders within the company.
• Act as a positive role model and provide the leadership that motivates and inspires others to work cooperatively and leverage QVC’s values to guide our approach and efforts.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent business experience preferred.
Experience: Minimum 8 years’ experience in a retail environment, preferably leading a buying team. Minimum 5 years’ experience in managing/leading others.
• Deep experience in Home Décor – direct sourcing and licensing.
• Excellent oral, written and telephonic communication skills.
• Excellent interpersonal skills and service orientation.
• Proven ability to lead, direct and develop a team with varied levels of experience.

• Excellent organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Tech savvy with ability to access data using automated systems.
• Provide clear and timely communication to ensure team is aligned towards a shared vision and a common goal.
• Establish, get buy-in for and communicate long-term and seasonal strategies so team is clearly focused on a common goal.
• Act as the cross-functional team lead to ensure that innovative ideas are surfaced and acted upon, and that the team is empowered to own the business.
• Motivate and inspire both large and small audiences during daily interactions.
• Share information cross-brand and cross-channel as appropriate.
• Maintain an open dialogue with Sourcing and Design to ensure that merchandising strategies and product design are aligned and we are delivering to customer’s needs.
