Director – Consolidated Financial Reporting
The Director - Consolidated Financial Reporting is a senior role in the US Finance Department, responsible for directing the quarterly consolidation of URW’s financial results in the United States.
Following the recent acquisition of Westfield by Unibail Redamco we are expanding the US consolidation and group report teams.
Reporting into the Vice President – Financial Reporting, this position will work closely with URW’s US and European (Paris based) finance and accounting teams to ensure timely, accurate and complete reporting of financial information including the preparation of quarterly and annual consolidation packages, technical accounting leadership (focus on IFRS) and liaison with auditors. Your strong communication and leadership skills will be utilized to provide practical and technical accounting guidance to help ensure all company’s controlling and financial accounting functions comply with accounting standards and that accounting processes in critical areas are properly and adequately supported and documented.
Responsibilities:
Quarterly/Year-end Consolidation of Actuals
• Lead URW’s US consolidation process and effectively manage tight deadlines
• Analyze consolidated and divisional financial results, including financial results, balance sheet fluctuations and cash flow
• Responsible for timely submission of URW US’s IFRS financial reporting packages to URW Paris, including correspondence at the highest level regarding results and accounting policies and procedures
• Assist URW Group Consolidation with activities similar to SEC filings for European reporting requirements.
• Plan and provide oversight of all external financial audits related to half yearly submissions; manage all internal deliverables and communications with external audit firms.
• Work closely with the tax compliance and planning teams to enable full tax reconciliation, establishment of deferred tax positions and accounting implementation of the corporate structure
• Articulate results and reporting matters to the US CFO and Senior Management Team, as well as members of URW’s financial leadership teams in Europe
Consolidation System Development and Management
• Evaluate and lead integration efforts between regional consolidation systems (US and Europe); including implementing the BFC Consolidation software in the US
• Manage system administration, including evaluating changes to accounts and business unit hierarchy
• Maintain system integrity and oversee the control environment
• Responsible for continuing to support the growth of the company with business process improvements and compliance with critical internal controls
• Work closely with the US GAAP reporting team to continuously improve conversion efficiencies and ensure system robustness
Accounting Policies and Procedures
• Provide technical accounting guidance and work collaboratively with US accounting teams to streamline processes and to ensure all controlling and financial accounting functions comply with IFRS and the URW Accounting Manual
• Lead the US business’ implementation of the URW Group Accounting Manual, in close liaison with Group Consolidation in Paris regarding local adaptation issues
• Produce and maintain adequate local documentation for accounting processes in critical areas
• Reinforce integrity and ensure compliance with all internal and external regulatory requirements through appropriate internal controls.
• Stay abreast of emerging accounting literature, acting as a subject matter expert and preparing technical analysis on guidance affecting URW’s business.
• Lead the interpretation, communication and implementation of new accounting pronouncements and assist with URW’s European compliance processes.
• Mergers and Acquisition Support - perform various due diligence and accounting support activities including: contract review, technical accounting, valuation of assets and liabilities and purchase accounting.
Education & Experience:
• Bachelors degree and CPA License or relevant international equivalent
• Public IFRS accounting background required
• Minimum 8 years of experience including big 4/National accounting firm background and external financial reporting in publicly-traded companies under IFRS
• Working knowledge of the differences between IFRS and US GAAP
• Extensive experience of medium to large enterprise financial consolidation systems (ideally SAP BPC/BFC and/or Hyperion)
• Previous accounting experience in a real estate business and working knowledge of US and/or European REIT principles preferred
• Proficiency in using/manage/building-out reporting tools & applications.
• Acquisition and Disposal accounting experience preferred
• Excellent level of software proficiency in using PC software to support activities, especially Microsoft Office products and accounting systems such as JD Edwards
• Exposure to key financial management processes as required in a global organization
• Experience analyzing financial information
