The Director of Merchandising is accountable to drive sales and profit for their area of responsibility at the division level. Serves as the liaison between stores and Merchandising (BSS). Main responsibility is to communicate merchandise direction to stores, ensure consistent store execution, and be the expert/point of contact for all Merchandising and product information for stores. Responsible for communicating what is working and not working to DOS and Merchandising.
Communicate merchandise direction to stores and ensure consistent store execution with an emphasis on total company sales and margin growth areas.
On a seasonal basis, partner with RVP’s/RVM’s to review space allocation, flows and adjacencies, to ensure all stores are positioned to meet the company’s strategic priorities.
In coordination with DMM’s/VP’s of Planning, track sales of major merchandise initiatives at the region/store level and report out weekly/monthly. Leverage partners to ensure performance opportunities are addressed as needed.
Leverage RVP Champions as a primary source of knowledge and direct communication from the field. Share their weekly feedback with Merchandising where appropriate. Team up with them to drive division results on major initiatives and opportunities, including brand launches/rollouts, FOB-specific events, FOB-specific training compliance and scorecards, market share gains/losses (where applicable).
Communicate and drive execution of special events. Report results and share best practices during and after events in coordination with the buying office.
Partner with RVPs and Store Managers on strategies to develop STM’s selling coaching skills.
Recruit, develop, and oversee Cosmetic Account Coordinator Division team in partnership with Vendor Field Directors and Division RVP’s.
Be an advocate for stores. Serve as liaison between field management and Merchandising for sales and inventory opportunities specific to regions/stores. May include assortment or vendor changes, inventory intensifications, or editing of a classification
Collaborate with RVP’s/SM’s as needed on strategies to drive sales and improve performance in areas of opportunity
Where applicable, provide/facilitate/assist in FOB-specific training in targeted markets: selling and clienteling skills, merchandise knowledge, merchandising skills, operational requirements and standards
Meet with Planning VP’s quarterly to review locational/regional opportunities, identified during store visits. As needed, partner with planning teams to address inventory deficiencies when similar issues are observed in multiple locations
Shop the competition regularly and report observations and concerns on pricing, items & assortments to Merchandising
Assist with the execution of new store openings and/or remodels
Primary communication will be with DOS/division team, Regional teams, merchant partners
Travel- in stores weekly, with division team or singularly
