Job Description
SUMMARY
The primary purpose of this position is promote and protect the Rite Aid brand among key internal and external stakeholders including news media as well as provide effective communications and issues management counsel in support of the Company's key business objectives and philanthropic efforts.
Frequent independent judgments are essential. The incumbent is also required to perform all tasks in observance of Rite Aid’s brand and strategy and adhere to our core values and service attributes.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The associate is responsible for the functions below, in addition to other duties as assigned:
• Serve as a primary spokesperson for the company as required and oftentimes in real time, fielding inquiries from all media outlets. Build positive working relationships with national, regional, local and trade media, including across digital platforms. Proactively engage with media as appropriate to tell the Rite Aid story. Manage incoming media inquiries in a timely and helpful manner. Support leaders and other spokespeople with messaging and media training
• Create and implement effective integrated public relations strategies and plans to further leverage and gain visilbity for key Rite Aid programs and services through positive and/or balanced news coverage and stakeholder engagement. This includes creating a wide variety of well-written communications materials, with a keen eye for detail, accuracy and clarity. This person will also identify, retain and supervise appropriate outside pr agencies and counsel as needed to support Rite Aid's key business objectives
• Provide issues management counsel as required and oftentimes in real time to corporate and field leadership as needed as well as develop and implement communications/risk mitigation strategies to help effectively manage special or crisis situation
• Support and promote the company's charitable giving initiatives primarily through The Rite Aid Foundation, including the development, implementation and oversight of the Company's national annual fundraising campaign for the Chidren's Miracle Network Hospital
• Establish and cultivate strong collaborative working partnership relationships with key company stakeholders including senior management,as well as field operations, pharmacy, human resources, marketing and category management leaders
• Represent the organization as the primary contact. Interact with management and senior value-chain partners on matters requiring coordination across organizational lines. Achievement of objectives requires ability to influence others both internally and potentially externally.
Experience / Requirements
• Ten (10) years' of experience in communications, with strong preference given to candidates with communications' experience in retail, retail health or cpg corporate/agency environment. required
Education
• Bachelor’s Degree in Arts/Sciences (BA/BS) Public Relations, Mass Communications or Journalism required
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience
• Driver’s license for business travel required
