Designing and Implementation
• Manage in the definition of software architecture to ensure that the online organization’s software solutions are built within a consistent framework
• Manage in the decision-making process related to the selection of software architecture solutions
• Design and develop architectures to handle web-scale data and its organization
• Develop strategies to inform data design and architecture in partnership with enterprise-wide standards
• Design documents that ensure consistency in development across the online organization. Implements and improves core software infrastructure
• Develop interactive dashboards, reports, and analysis templates
• Design a platform that can provide ad-hoc access to large datasets
Scope of Work
• Responsible for data road mapping for analytics
• Translate strategic requirements to ensure effective solutions meet business requirements
• Provide consultation on complex programs with a global team
• Review approves specifications to ensure consistency in approach and use
• Assist partners as a technical and business-savvy resource to software engineering personnel on a range of software design issues
• Perform systems and applications performance characterization and trade-off studies through analysis and simulation
• Research and recommend improvements in coding standards
• Research and author state-of-the-art/industry relevant tools, techniques, and equipment; participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications; maintaining personal networks; participating in professional organizations
Team Leadership
• Develops a world-class team providing development, coaching, motivation, support and feedback to team members. Creates an atmosphere of team work and collaboration
• Define and communicate overall vision and goals for the team
• Manage resource allocation and planning, coaching, motivating and developing a team
• Align work and set priorities appropriate to the development of all team members while ensuring business objectives/goals are met
• Leads, coaches and monitors the work performed by the team to ensure goals and objectives are met and team expectations are clear
• Communicates day-to-day decisions, priorities and relevant project information to appropriate team members regarding projects and initiatives
Requirements
• MS or PhD in Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or equivalent work experience
• 10+ years of experience in developing software applications including: analysis, design, coding, testing, deploying and supporting of applications
• 3+ years of experience leading engineering teams career development, mentoring and leadership
• Proficient in application/software architecture (definition, business process modeling, etc.)
• Extensive understanding of application/software development and design
• Collaborative personality - ability to engage in interactive discussions with the global DSE teams
• Experience working with Big Data technology stack (Hadoop, Spark, Scala, Kafka, Druid, etc.)
• Current on leading edge data engineering philosophies, ideas, and tools
• Good understanding of the Hadoop ecosystem and low level constructs
• Experience with end-to-end software development processes and practices Agile development
• Ability to work with non-technical resources on the team to translate data needs into Big Data solutions using the appropriate tools
