Director, Operations Support
Job Summary
The Director of Food Safety, Sanitation, Capital Projects and Facilities will work within a cross-collaborative team to maximize manufacturing capacity by planning and executing site expansions and new facility construction to support business growth within budgetary guidelines, leading to optimal financial performance. The Director will be responsible for the strategic development and execution of providing world class, manufacturing facilities to drive optimal operating financial performance. This role will provide the thought leadership, strategic direction, and tactical implementation of the advancement of food safety culture and sanitation systems excellence. The Director will drive system improvements in current and future manufacturing facilities maintenance systems to maximize production throughput with minimal equipment downtime.
Essential Job Functions
• Lead a team of Food Safety and Sanitation professionals to ensure compliance to all Food Safety Modernization Act (FSMA) regulations are met and exceeded
• Utilizing lean/six sigma continuous improvement tools, execute and measure a culture of world class food safety by partnering with manufacturing leaders to create world class food safety and sanitation facilities
• Provide leadership in planning and executing equipment preventative maintenance and repair program to reduce downtime and equipment purchasing requirements within budgetary controls and facility needs
• Oversee all facility programs including utilities, ventilation, environmental, security and grounds
• Provide leadership and planning for manufacturing site expansions and new facility construction projects within a cross collaborative team, ensuring that design and build out meets FSMA compliance and manufacturing capacity requirements
• Assist in identifying and supporting opportunities to enhance profitability and growth in all operating units
• Ensure that a depth of high quality talent exists throughout the Company. Assist in selecting, developing, leading and coaching the team with the goal of meeting/exceeding targeted goals
Qualifications
• Demonstrated success to provide change management leadership during rapid growth and business transformation
• Proven ability to develop high-performing teams through mentoring, collaboration, holding accountability to rigorous standards while sustaining high engagement and positive energy
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate at all levels of the organization. Spanish speaking and writing skills are preferred but not required
• Exhibited passion for embracing the Panera mission, vision and values in support of providing crave-able food, high quality food to our customers
• The ability to travel domestically up to 75%
Education and Experience
• Undergraduate degree in Operations Management, Business, Food Safety or Engineering with at least 7 years of leading teams with multi-functional expertise and/or an equivalent amount of education and experience is required
• Knowledge of SQF, FSMA, GFSI, Food Defense and HACCP with significant experience with sanitation and food safety best practices is required
• Demonstrated prior experience in large scale production, engineering, lean manufacturing and/or Six Sigma, contractor management, planning, scheduling, quality, continuous improvement methods and project management is required
• Proven knowledge of management principles involved in strategic planning, resource allocation, human resource development, leadership and operations management is required
• Lean and Six Sigma certification, preferably as a Master Black Belt is preferred.
• Multi-site manufacturing experience is preferred
