VP, Digital Creative - West Elm
The Director of Digital Creative is responsible for managing and overseeing the digital creative team at west elm, and leading the development of beautiful creative assets that support and enhance the west elm brand and inspire consumers to take action.
This team designs our cross-platform digital marketing assets. Creation of these marketing assets encompasses everything from the development of the annual marketing plan, to the creation of seasonal campaigns and stories across digital platforms, to concepting strategic projects around product and lifestyle.
The ideal candidate is a highly-motivated, self-starting, broad-thinking, multi-disciplinary, people-person who enjoys managing a large team -- and knows that good ideas can come from anywhere.
Your challenge will be to keep the team focused as everyone creates marketing vehicles and content for distribution across all digital avenues. You will need a strong understanding of digital design, including video and social, and have the ability to lead a team to develop innovative concepts and assets that grow the impact of our brand.
To be successful here you will also need a flexible personality and be able to thrive in a fast-paced environment. The Director of Digital Creative must have strong creative vision and be comfortable working at a granular level when necessary in order to manage the day-to-day changes of a dynamic retail business.
Essential Functions:
• Lead the conversations that produce the designs and concepts of all digital creative. You will oversee, direct, and approve the digital design team's daily deliverables. This requires an active partnership with our project management team to understand individual design team members' skillsets and bandwidth to successfully complete each project.
• Lead and coach the team on larger picture projects such as seasonal site strategies, seasonal look and feel, and monthly campaigns.
• Seek out new and innovative digital platforms and technologies
• Spearhead the development of agile design processes, and a "test and learn" design culture
• Attend and translate the weekly business meetings to filter all information as necessary to the members of the team. This meeting includes a review of sales, forecasting, and changes to brand initiatives. You need the ability to take this info and feed it back to the design team to come up with marketing solutions for the company that deliver.
• Help build new process, workflow and touch-points with merchant, editorial, creative production and marketing teams to enable greater cross-channel efficiencies and brand alignment
• Partner with cross-brand leads & marketing to concept campaign strategies, focused on the digital medium
• Oversee execution of site strategies, display campaigns and social amplifications
• Partner on concepting of digital image strategy for seasonal campaigns & evergreen site experiences
• Identify emerging trends and opportunities in the industry and apply to west elm's digital strategy
• Identify the talent necessary to achieve the brand goals by developing current team members and identifying opportunities for team growth and succession planning
Ensure consistency of brand standards across all global markets as it relates to WE email strategy, concepts and layouts
REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS
• Qualifications:
• 8-10 years of design experience centered on e-commerce
• experience leading and providing art direction to a large team of cross-platform designers and producers
• Strong portfolio of real-world work that showcases retail-focused design thinking
• Strong understanding of digital design best practices and tools for marketing
• Knowledge of UX best practices and modern UIs
• Regular user of Adobe CS/CC and relevant digital design tools -- and the ability to teach these skills to the team
• An understanding of HTML/CSS/JavaScript; you won't be asked to code, but the solutions the team presents must be doable
