Director, Associate Analytics and Insights
Panera is building our talent analytics and insights capability to enable us to know where our associates are most in need of support and how to best give it to them. The ideal candidate is a player-coach who can create models, mine data and also present the story behind the numbers. Using multiple methods (building dashboards, working with large data sets, presenting insights) successful candidates will need to be meticulous, well organized and be in tune with the culture of Panera. Here, we get things done and we do it in a fast-paced, fun environment. Getting 100,000 people to row our boat in the same direction requires a can-do spirit.
This role reports to, the SVP of Learning and Development and works closely with the VP of Human Resources, IT team and Cafe Operations. This Director will be expected to work across all levels and departments to ensure a comprehensive view of the associate experience. With a high volume of change and constant challenges to our operation, a collaborative and swift approach to problem solving is a must.
Here are some of the key
responsibilities required in this role:
• Act as an expert consultant on data analysis while working to understand the root cause of complex people/business issues and suggesting high impact solutions.
• Provide ways to determine the delivered value of Panera initiatives (such as in-caf training programs, hiring/onboarding practices, new product rollouts) and recommendations as to what efforts should stop, start or continue.
• Create a comprehensive view of Paneras workforce by the numbers and identify opportunities in areas such as diversity, retention, performance and more. Approach with a compassionate sabermetrics mindset.
• Think like a behavioral scientist by tapping into the most beneficial associate behaviors via methods, and messaging, that matter most to your audience. Includes tailoring for franchisee, company owned caf and support center audiences.
• Create an internal picture of what behaviors work at Panera (that produce value-added outcomes for our associates, guests and brand).
• Continuously evaluate and deploy the most effective people analytics techniques.
• Continuously innovate by proactively identifying opportunities to improve the associate experience.
• Help Panera identify and eliminate unproductive people initiatives and replace with activities that will drive intended outcomes.
• Partner with appropriate external experts on human behavior in organizations to solve issues related to improving Paneras associate experience. Publish findings.
• Lead a team of professionals to achieve greatness in their respective functions. Develop, coach and grow your teams skills so that you become a talent incubator for future generations of Panera professionals.

Finally, heres the type of background we think you need to do this role well:
• BA/BS degree in Economics, Statistics, Finance, Social Science, Psychology, or any related fields (i.e. Mathematics, Engineering), or equivalent practical experience.
• Experience using SQL, Python or other data or scripting language. Experience with data collection methods as well as, compiling data from disparate sources and organizing it in accessible ways.
• A demonstrated track record of professional experience using creative data-driven approaches to solve business problems. Examples of impacting audience thinking and behavior, and gettingmeaningful results.
• Youve worked in collaborative environments and get how multiple functions work together to influence the overall employee and customer experience.
• Experience managing multiple projects well.
• Clear examples where you have dealt with difficult to identify behavioral and/or data challenges.
• You have a track record of rolling up your sleeves and using your skills to getmeaningful results (did we say that twice?)
• Anything else that will convince us that you take your craft seriously, you are good at what you do and you are not the enemy of fun at work.
