PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Inventory Planning Control team is responsible for defining and operating Target’s Inventory Planning and Control (IPC) systems and coming up with the overall inventory strategy. This team is responsible for defining the system that Inventory mangers will use to get recommended order quantity, strategizing how the company should manage its multi-echelon inventory network, implementing automated ordering, deciding how much inventory to buy, when to bring inventory into the Target network, and where to position it. The IPC team innovates and continuously improves processes that result in sophisticated, intelligent and self-learning models. This role will be within the Inventory Health pillar of IPC, specifically responsible for leading strategy and optimization based initiatives to drive the efficiency of Target’s supply chain. The team member will need to use advanced statistical, simulation and modeling techniques while collaborating with data science, product, technology and business partners to transform Target’s supply chain.
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Understands Target’s supply chain business and data across dot com and store channels.
2. Based on data, understands and helps define the leadership vision for longer term supply chain strategy.
3. Leads a team of inventory optimization managers and supply chain project managers. Inventory optimization managers will be a mix of MS and PhD in OR/IE/Statistics, Project Managers will be team members with extensive retail domain exposure and passion for data driven decisions.
4. Works with business and technology partners to analyze opportunities, quantify scope for improvement and define core areas of focus to improve guest experience and cost to serve in Target’s supply chain.
5. Leads pilot engagements to demonstrate business opportunities and ensures succession to standard process/practice where appropriate.
6. Conducts approach and modeling technique review with direct reports. Provides guidance on analytical techniques to use. Able to do hands on analytical work as needed.
7. Leads the team to work closely with data science and engineering teams to help deploy new algorithmic solutions to support inventory planning and control.
8. Works collaboratively with many different functional areas (EDABI (data analytics and business intelligence), Product, Technology etc.) to define and assist in the prioritization of new system capabilities and features.
9. Has the passion to engage in deep analytical, algorithmic work while staying connected to the core business teams.
REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports to the Senior Director, Inventory Health. Working relationships with EDABI (data analytics and business intelligence), technology solutions, product and business teams.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
REQUIREMENTS:
• PhD/MS in a quantitative discipline such as statistics, operations research or industrial engineering.
• 7+ years of supply chain industry experience with PhD (10+ years for Master’s). Prior retail experience preferred.
• Prior experience managing teams with highly analytical skillsets.
• Strong communication skills and executive presence.
• Experience utilizing problem solving and analytical skills.
• Expertise with supply chain concepts such as forecasting, planning, optimization, and logistics
• Experience with statistical tools such as SAS, R, SPSS and with scripting languages such as Python for analyzing data and building prototypes.
• Knowledge of statistics and data mining techniques and tools to analyze and make insights from big data such as historical sales data and simulation/experiment results.
• Familiarity in the following fields: simulation, A/B testing, optimization, decision analysis, stochastic models, forecasting, mathematical modeling or machine learning.
• A good understanding of analysis of algorithms and computational complexity.
• Technical aptitude and familiarity with the design and use of complex logistics software systems
• A strong passion for empirical research and for answering hard questions with data.
