Position Summary
The Director, Strategic Product Innovation & Development will lead a team of direct reports and cross functional partners throughout the enterprise through the design, development and launch of a portfolio of products, capabilities and services. This portfolio will include overseeing products already committed for deployment as well as identifying innovative opportunities, testing new service offerings, and optimizing enhancements to existing offerings designed specifically to meet the needs of our patients and clients. The position is a critical leadership position driving strategy, innovation, and growth within CVS Health MinuteClinic.
The director will lead a team as they rapidly iterate on pilots and programs, to optimize results and gather critical insights and findings. The output of the team will be clear recommendations on whether and how these programs should move to large-scale launches. This group will focus on the highest-value and highest-priority innovation initiatives within the portfolio, specifically focusing on new and differentiated ways to achieve our quality ratings, to improve health outcomes, and manage costs for our patients and clients.
The leader of this team plays a particularly important role collaborating cross-functionally and influencing senior leaders to develop and execute pilots that provide near and long term value drivers that position CVS Health for innovative and sustainable growth across all business units.
The position requires leading the team as they:
• Using design thinking principles, develop a set of end to end design briefs to include defining the problem/opportunity, intent scope, exploration questions, target users, research plan, mini-test solutions, expected outcomes, implementation solutions, success metrics, and project planning for designing and developing new concepts
• Optimize and identify process improvement of existing programs that will create value
• Drive innovation by turning high-potential ideas and opportunities into actionable pilots, testing key value assumptions and operational ability to implement and execute.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with partners to gather insights, gain subject matter expertise, understand the impact to scalability, leverage resources and knowledge across broader teams
• Identify opportunities for innovation through brainstorming and ideation and develop business cases, key assumptions and variables to test
• Lead the execution of mini-tests and pilots, measure results and compare against critical assumptions, design and optimize subsequent phases of pilots based on initial learnings
• Develop and communicate the overall strategy
• Regularly present to Sr. Leadership to communicate the clinical, product, service, financial, and operational functions and metrics
To be effective in this role, this leader needs to:
• Ensure detailed understanding of the goals and objectives of the innovation
• Think strategically and with a patient/customer-centric point of view
• Have the ability to develop innovative solutions to business challenges
• Be able to develop, test and execute enterprise product offerings
• Have passion for developing and managing high-performing teams
• Influence other business units on the importance of the innovation and gain consensus to develop and execute.
Required Qualifications
• 6+ years of experience or 4+ years post MBA experience in the following areas:
o Leading/managing, cross-functional teams in a matrixes environment.
o Relationship-building skills to foster effective working relationships across CVS Health.
o Developing innovative, design-thinking, strategic, analytical, process improvement, financial frameworks for growth ideas, products and services with launch, implementation, and success metrics.
o Managing multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced team environment.
o Experience in healthcare services industry knowledge and healthcare trends, including those related to enterprise assets i.e. Patient care delivery, Pharmacy, long-term care, specialty pharmacy care, insurance.
• Any potential candidate must have
o Strong business acumen and mature decision making processes and be able to understand the links and connections between functional business areas/units and factor them into decisions and plans.
o Excellent communication skills and possess emotional intelligence and executive presence and be able to partner with and influence cross-functional and senior stakeholders.
o Demonstrate the capacity to synthesize complex information from disparate sources into a clear compelling story and negotiate with disparate stakeholder (internal and external) to identify and align on common sources of value to ensure successful program development and value creation for CVS.
Education
• Bachelor's Degree required; MBA, Clinical or other advanced degree preferred-MBA Clinical or other advanced degree
