Job Summary and Mission
This critical role contributes to Starbucks success by serving as a key member of the Global Operations Services leadership team. Responsibilities include participating in development of business strategy, new technology and methods to enhance productivity and capacity for Starbucks brand, consulting throughout the Company to identify opportunities and optimize performance, influencing program prioritization and planning, and managing Organization’s processes and practices to align programs with company business goals and objectives. Models and acts in accordance with Starbucks guiding principles.
Summary of Key Responsibilities
Responsibilities and essential job functions include but are not limited to the following:
Leadership- Setting goals for the work group, developing organizational capability, and modeling how we work together:
• Acts as a role model of Starbucks culture and values.
• Establishes and manages objectives, scope, budget and timelines for organization’s projects.
• Identifies and communicates key responsibilities and practices to ensure the immediate team of direct reports promotes a successful attitude, confidence in leadership, and teamwork to achieve business results.
• Participates in creating and executing a strategic plan that creates best in class operations and drives increased customer satisfaction.
• Supports long term planning to improve implementation support of field operations.
• Supports the implementation of company programs, procedures, methods and practices to promote Starbucks key messages and achieve a competitive advantage.
• Supports the planning and implementation of company’s initiatives to increase profit performance.
Planning and Execution - Developing strategic and operational plans for the work group, managing execution, and measuring results:
• Contributes to the development of the annual operating plan and budget, and quarterly forecast updates.
• Plans and manages business unit/department processes and practices to ensure that programs are aligned with the Company's business goals and objectives.
• Prepares, communicates and educates client groups and team on changes in policies and practices within the organization.
Business Requirements- Providing functional expertise and executing functional responsibilities:
• Acts as an ambassador for Starbucks mission of creating a legendary service experience that enriches people's daily lives.
• Facilitates the prioritization process and monitors new activities to ensure proper allocation of resources in support of overall business objectives.
• Identifies synergies and opportunities for collaboration between business units and functions.
• Manages the development of business cases for enterprise-wide programs, projects and initiatives.
• Meets regularly with key stakeholders, including Support Center and field leadership, to exchange information, data and recommendations to support implementation, identify and resolve distinct company’s challenges and facilitate decision-making and decision-making processes.
• Participates on critical committees as assigned to represent the department and organization.
Partner Development & Team Building - Providing partners with coaching, feedback, and developmental opportunities and building effective teams:
• Challenges and inspires partners to achieve business results.
• Ensures partners adhere to legal and operational compliance requirements.
• Oversees training and development of partners indirectly managed and makes effective staffing decisions.
• Provides coaching, direction and leadership support to team members in order to achieve partner, business and customer results.
• Pursues personal development opportunities to enhance ability to contribute to Starbucks success in role; acts as a role model for others in this area. Seeks out and initiates opportunities to strengthen leadership, business management and organizational expertise.
Summary of Experience
• Progressive experience managing in multi-unit retail, restaurant or service organizations through subordinate multi-unit managers (5+ years).
• Consumer products, retail, or food company experience, either technical or production (7+ years).
• Engineering experience (electrical, mechanical, or industrial) (7+ years).
• Financial analysis and profit and loss responsibility.
• Managing and developing others (7+ years).
# Supervising professional and nonexempt partners, which may include project teams and contractors.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
• Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
• Planning and organizational project management skills.
• Ability to lead others.
• Effective skills in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Ability to apply multidisciplinary business principles and practices to achieve successful outcomes in cross-functional projects and activities.
• Ability to represent the function effectively and work with specialty groups to achieve mutually successful outcomes that enhance sound business operations and profitability.
• Ability to build bridges and collaborate throughout Starbucks, achieving buy-in and support across all business units.
• Skill in effective listening, influencing and negotiating.
Job Scope
• Annual Managed Expenses $10-30 M.
• Partners Directly Managed 1-5.
• Partners Indirectly Managed 5-10.
