Director of Pricing
The Director, Pricing will be the Panera expert in all things pricing and will be responsible for driving both pricing strategy and tactics for the company. The primary objective of the role is to maximize profit and revenue growth while balancing both short and long-term objectives. Key areas of focus will be pricing of new items, price changes for existing items, geographic-specific pricing, and menu structure. The Director, Pricing will report to the VP, Category Management.
Accountabilities:
• Develop a strategic approach to pricing to maximize profitability over the long-term
• Maintain an up-to-date view of external factors that affect pricing such as gas prices, consumer confidence, competitor pricing, minimum wage laws, commodity pricing, etc.
• Provide recommendations for the ideal pricing of new menu items for retail and catering
• Formulate geographic specific pricing plans on an ongoing basis
• Ensure end-to-end execution of pricing plans and pricing for new product launches, including validation in Pricing Data Base, POS and menus
• Understand the interplay among various menu offerings including their size, quality and placement on the menu and the impact that has on price
• Design and manage pricing tests, including category management tests such as profit optimization via bundling
• Provide celebration product mix forecasts to Planning and Sourcing
• Communicate related actions/changes across all levels of the organization
• Be a thought partner for company and franchise operators
Qualifications:
• Extensive experience in restaurant or other consumer pricing and analytics, including having conducted multiple analyses such as Van Westendorp, conjoint, elasticity, etc.
• Ability to focus on both long-term strategic goals and short-term actions
• Fierce attention to detail
• Analytical and reporting technical knowledge
• Strong leadership ability coupled with excellent collaboration and influencing traits
• Ability to recognize critical business needs and determine an appropriate course of action while focused on strategic objectives and initiatives
• Strong command of written and verbal skills, and demonstrated ability to create compelling presentations to senior leaders
• Ability to develop accurate financial models utilizing a variety of assumptions
• Ability to dissect generated financial models, think through analytical problems from varying perspectives and overcome obstacles in new and creative ways
• Mastery of Excel. Experience in SAS/Tableau a plus
Education / Experience
• Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Economics, Math or Statistics (Masters degree preferred)
• 8+ years of experience in Pricing, Research, and Analytics or equivalent in consulting - Retail or Restaurant context a plus
