Director of Transportation
Responsibilities:
• Must be highly skilled in negotiating, analyzing and modifying nationwide T/L and LTL freight movement, based upon seasonal and current business conditions.
• Coordinate activities of East Coast and West Coast soft goods consolidation facilities, including extensive integration of eastbound rail services.
• Management of import container, C-TPAT and MLB programs from the Far East, with capability to utilize both NVOCC and direct service providers.
• Direction of private, non-union trucking fleet, with comprehensive understanding of DOT, OSHA, federal and state regulations, and hours of service requirements.
• Expand existing multi-state back-haul/empty miles program. Oversight of equipment maintenance and diesel fuel contracts.
• Experienced small parcel negotiator, with oversight of Internet and consignee billing programs. Analyze and assess service levels and merchandise routing violations.
• Establish carrier metrics and service standards among all partners, and ensure their achievement. Define continuous improvement expectations.
• Negotiate purchase or leasing of trailers and service cargo vans. Experienced in coordinating nationwide household moves among third parties.
Skill Sets Required:
• Excellent negotiating and contract assessment skills. Outstanding written skills.
• Ability to create RFP’s, and develop cost, systems and service analyses to expedite decision-making, acceptance and assimilation processes.
• Familiarity with the integration of transportation management, freight payment and warehouse management computer systems. Literate in SmartWay and sustainability environments.
• Ability to think strategically and develop long-term business plans. Develop operating, payroll and capital budgets.
• Experienced in managing and reporting information contained within Access and Excel databases, and all Microsoft Office Suite applications.
• Background in directing the activities of salaried and hourly staff, including performance assessment, corrective action plans, and devising training plans.
Experience Required:
7 – 10 years of experience in all facets of transportation negotiations, fleet management, import and small parcel functions among multiple locations. Bachelor’s Degree required, with Masters Degree in Business or Logistics preferred. Department or specialty store experience a plus.
