Job Description Details
The Director of Database Administration is responsible for providing global leadership and technical guidance to a global team of database managers across a variety of database and BI platforms (SQL, Oracle, DB/2, Informatica, Terradata, Netezza, etc.) supporting all of customer facing digital properties and internal applications.
This leader will be responsible for the overall database platform design and architecture to achieve the highest levels of availability and fault tolerance in a tiered environment driven by application and business needs. This leader will also be responsible for establishing a vision, creating and executing a strategy to consolidate/integrate existing platforms, optimize resources, and define a reference architecture aligned with business and applications needs.
Key Responsibility:
• Provides strategic leadership, management and direction to the Database Platform teams, ensuring optimal DB Platform operations across people, process and technologies.
Technology and Service Management
• Establishes and enforces Database Platform policies, standards, processes, and procedures to ensure compliance
• Establishes and monitors key performance indicators and service level objectives for continually improving the performance and availability of Database Platforms.
• Oversees the monitoring, maintenance, upgrade and administration of all database platforms to achieve a great customer experience, system availability, performance, and security objectives.
• Reviews performance and capacity of Database Platforms to manage the optimization of operating costs, improve operational efficiency, increase reliability and performance, productivity levels, and upgrade requirements.
• Responsible for database disaster recovery and data replication, including planning, documentation, implementation and failover testing.
• Manages 3rd party vendors and service providers; performance and SLA’s, incident handling and issue/problem resolution and escalation
Strategy Management:
• Leads the assessment/evaluation of emerging Database platform technologies, cloud strategies, and upgrade options in partnership with key stakeholders.
• Is seen by Application Development teams and business partners as a strategic partner in supporting their respective roadmaps and driving alignment on strategy goals.
• Communicates clearly and precisely with all levels of the company. Ensures that key business and IT plans/vision are disseminated through their organization.
People Management:
• Implements strategies to attract, retain, motivate and develop talent in their organization.
• Responsible for all employee performance-related activities, including performance reviews and any disciplinary recommendations. Makes compensation decisions.
• Directs teams, ensuring they are working together effectively. Partners with and integrates across other areas of the company, resolving conflicts and managing competing priorities.
• Supports the project team to ensure success, includes removing roadblocks and helping the team to navigate the organization. Identifies when additional funding and/or resources are needed based on scope changes.
• Manages and resolves client issues, including competing demands, sensitive situations, and conflicts within their organization and/or with other teams.
• Builds and maintains key partnerships and alignment across both application development and infrastructure teams in order to ensure we provide the most optimal DB performance.
Financial Management:
• Develops department budget and ensures budget objectives are achieved through managers and other team members, manages budget expenditures during the year, including trade-offs between areas, and re-prioritizes as necessary.

Qualifications
• 10+ years of relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Computer Science or Engineering
• Demonstrated ability of building quick alignment, driving to decisions, influencing without positional power, and collaborating to produce improved outcomes
