Summary
The Director, Application Development has overall responsibility for the development, management and maintenance of enterprise applications. Through implementation of new initiatives and continual improvement to existing processes, ensures quality delivery of applications supporting Jo-Ann business processes and goals. As a member of the IT leadership team, actively contributes to thought leadership, strategic planning and service delivery. Fosters partnerships with company leaders and ensures that IT service portfolio meets the needs of the enterprise. As a trusted advisor to the Jo-Ann business, translates company goals into technology solutions, while balancing appropriate compliance and operational requirements. Acts as a positive change agent and demonstrates a strong commitment to team development providing coaching to all levels of the IT organization. Engages in projects and support as required, serving as a primary escalation point. Manages the supply for development resources and is actively involved in managing application deliveries. Drives application strategy and organizational alignment to deliver quality, flexible and timely application services. Serves as a member of the IT Steering Committee driving strategic project planning that delivers value to the organization.
Scope
• Manages a team of 30 to 40 IT professionals. Responsibilities extend to the Store Support Center (SSC), distribution centers and multi- channel retailing through over 860 stores and ecommerce.
• Directs overall planning, execution and management of multiple IT projects. Ensures deliveries are within planned scope, duration and cost throughout the project. Communicates/escalates status of key projects and deliverables. Demonstrates and instills a culture of project accountability among team members. Focuses on continual resource planning and oversees the supply of development resources.
• Provides support for existing processes. Develops plans to efficiently support existing applications. Supports practices to resolve issues promptly while identifying root cause and quality resolution. Identifies strategies and initiatives to reduce support demands.
• Maintains customer relationships, provides business expertise and guidance on solutions to business problems. Builds rapport with business units as an advocate for change and innovation. Increases the strategic role of technology in the enterprise.
• Manages various teams of IT professionals. Supervises direct reports and ensures work deliverables are accomplished. Builds a culture of teamwork and collaboration through active communication with direct reports and staff. Provides mentoring, training, and actively assesses on-going performance. Engages in continuous coaching and performance management, attracting talent to the organization.
• Strategic planning and thought leadership. Drives strategic planning of IT resources for the enterprise. Guides application strategies and standards that support long-term business goals. Aligns staffing models and organizational structures to deliver IT initiatives in support of departmental goals.
• Develops, manages and controls departmental budget.
• Defines and supports technical standards and processes, including management principles, service methodologies and compliance standards.
Education Requirements
• Minimum: 4 year / Bachelor’s degree in computer science, business or related field.
• Preferred: Master's degree in computer science or related advanced degree.
Experience
• Minimum: 10+ years of retail technology or related business experience including large-scale implementations, application design and IT or project governance.
• Preferred: 3-5+ years of retail business management experience, infrastructure management, IT service management.
