Overview
Overall responsibility for corporate insurance and risk management department. Responsible for evaluating risks, determining loss exposures, and identifying appropriate risk management practices. Responsible for corporate insurance program execution through competitive negotiation of insurance policy coverage and renewals. Oversee programs and vendor partners, including: brokerage, insurance defense counsel, and claims administration. Works with corporate accounting and actuaries to establish and maintain appropriate insurance reserves. Pursues initiatives to reduce incidence and severity of losses and other initiatives to reduce the total cost of risk.
Responsibilities
• Engage collaboratively with peers throughout the organization to understand the existing business, key strategic initiatives, and risk exposures.
• Set overall insurance strategy for company. Manage effective risk transfer and risk retention programs through development and negotiation of insurance programs for U.S. and Canada.
• Leverage vendor partners in brokerage and dedicated claims administration services to produce exceptional results in placement, consulting, contract review, claims management, and risk management information services.
• Partner with the 7-Eleven legal team regarding insurance defense strategy and execution and risk mitigation, when necessary. Insurance defense responsibilities include but are not limited to designating and supervising outside counsel; assisting with discovery and trial preparation; participating in settlement discussions and mediations or arbitrations; and legal bill review.
• Evaluate trends and improvement opportunities through analytics, benchmarking and actuarial analysis. Working with stakeholders where necessary, implement program changes (e.g. safety initiatives, changes in claim handling practices, litigation management strategies, etc.), evaluate results, and provide feedback to the organization.
• Support M&A projects and other strategic initiatives by evaluating/securing appropriate coverages, providing post acquisition integration support, and ongoing claims management.
• Manage the budget and reserving process and report financial impact of risk programs to executives.
• Lead and develop internal team of eight insurance / risk management professionals.
• Participate as a core member of Enterprise Risk Management (ERM) Committee.
• Maintain involvement in Risk and Insurance Management Society (RIMS) and/or other industry organizations to strengthen professional networking and benchmarking resources within the community.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
Position requires knowledge of insurance and finance normally acquired through a Bachelor’s degree. In addition, work experience should consist of a minimum of 10-years prior work experience in insurance, finance, or similar capacities.
SKILLS
• Position requires strong written and verbal communication skills. In addition, a strong sense of customer service is required to address questions or concerns stemming from customers, franchisees, and employees.
• Strong negotiation skills required to minimize total cost of risk through negotiations with brokers, carriers, claims administrators, and other third-parties.
• Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail required.
• Ability to communicate and interact at all levels of the organization from store associate to senior management.
