Overview
Pier 1 Imports is transforming our business and with transformation comes opportunity. We are looking for a Director Marketing Strategy and Insights.
Duties & Responsibilities
In this role you will:
• Implement new brand ethos and value proposition across new, active, retained customer targets and ensuring long term growth of Pier 1
• Provide the strategy, management direction and support needed to ensure the marketing team meets ongoing business needs related to trade management, customer planning, and performance
• Implement the 12 month strategic framework for the Pier1 trade strategy, include agile options, and provide ongoing integration leadership with ancillary departments to ensure that trade tactics and customer plans align with overall strategic direction of the company
• Develop and manage Key Performance Metrics for trade and set a strategic plan for ongoing trade effectiveness and efficiency
• Implement data-driven decision making by instilling an insights/action-oriented approach to driving topline sales growth for Pier 1; this includes strengthening data mining and statistical talent in order to derive necessary insights
• Develop new opportunities for organic and non-organic growth across all aspects of Pier 1
• Work collaboratively with Finance to ensure development of effective programs that operate within budget and priorities
• Drive all aspects of the 4C (customer, channel, competition, category) insights and market dynamics via robust insights team
• Develop, manage and analyze strategic business plans and trade plans including trade budget development to increase volume growth across all channels; ensure all trade tactics and customer plans fall within the guidelines of the corporate strategy

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in business or marketing required, MBA desired.
• Experience: 10+ years of increasing responsibility within the retail industry, including experience within finance, marketing, sales, and integrations. Deep understanding of retail trade within North American and experience with large, strategic brand transformations strongly preferred. Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Candidate must have ability to influence without direct authority and interpret needs of sales to provide creative solutions for business that deliver company objectives. Must have the ability to create processes and controls to ensure proper execution of various programs and incent aligned behavior within omni-channel framework in relation to programs and trade returns on investment. Candidate must have critical/ analytical/ strategic thinking skills and have the ability to organize own work and set priorities.
• Management Skills: Comfortable managing and communicating at the executive level within the organization. Skilled in oral and written presentations. Ability to manage multiple projects with aggressive timelines. Manage projects through other departments and outside suppliers with the ability to resolve higher level problems. Able to budget for projects, control costs and evaluate results with the ability to lead, manage and provide direction to internal and external clients. Ability to hire, train, provide work direction, review performance and motivate staff.
• Relationships: Primary internal contact is with all levels of Stores, Marketing, Merchandising, Planning, Pricing, and Finance. Frequent interaction and communication with Executive Staff.
• Work Structure: Reports to CMO. Incumbent must determine work priorities and methods to achieve goals.
