General Responsibilities
Position Summary:
The Senior Director of External Communications is responsible for the development and implementation of media relations strategies to advance business, brand and reputation goals. This position encompasses public relations and awareness-building strategies, national, trade and social media relations, thought leadership, crisis communications, and reputation and issues management.
We are looking for an enthusiastic public relations professional to build, manage and direct positive relationships between Hertz and external parties.
Position Responsibilities:
• Develop and implement public relations and social media campaigns, strategies and tactics that engage key constituents, build brand awareness and support business objectives
• Ensure communication strategy is consistent and reflects Hertz’s strategic vision
• Manage multiple projects from concept to completion by anticipating challenges, troubleshooting problems, proposing solutions, overseeing quality, and ensuring deadline and budget adherence
• Oversee the Hertz, Dollar and Thrifty brands via integrated strategies and action plans across multiple platforms including local/national media, social media, corporate website
• Ensure brand message is consistent, timely, and relevant
• Provide strategic communications counsel to senior management
• Drive executive visibility media relations efforts
• Collaborate with internal communications, creative, digital, sales, legal, government relations, operations and other key internal teams as necessary to achieve objectives and ensure consistent messaging to all stakeholders
• Manage company blog, corporate website and executive management’s social media platforms
• Maintain strong relationships with business, lifestyle and trade media
• Provide crisis communications counsel to leadership to support effective issues management
• Handle daily media inquiries
Mandatory Requirements
Qualifications:
• S./B.A. in communications, journalism, marketing or related field preferred
• Minimum of 12-15 years of relevant agency or corporate PR experience, showing proven editorial placements in key media
• Good press relationships and excellent reporter-management skills
• Issues management experience and an ability to manage crises on off-hours
• Industry experience should include consumer brands, ideally with a customer service component
• Social media savvy is a plus
• Experience developing PR programs that have successfully relaunched high profile consumer brands
• Critical and structured thinker with superior analytical and problem-solving abilities
• Team management experience. A track record of mentoring junior talent
