POSITION PURPOSE:
The Assistant Store Director Fresh is responsible for the planning, operation and supervision of all Fresh employees ensuring that customers experience a customer focused environment as they shop. Responsible for creating a culture where employees are empowered and expected to create an environment of food exploration, innovation and education for customers and employees. They assist Fresh department managers and actively participate in the hiring, training and coaching of all employees to provide world-class customer care. They are responsible for meeting the Fresh financial expectations of the company in regards to projections, budgets and active control of costs in order to achieve sales and profit objectives. Responsible for collaborating with division/corporate merchandising to execute Fresh plans and provide feedback with continued improvement. They use equipment safely and ensure that company and departmental policies and procedures are adhered to, as well as, meet any state/federal law and labor union to ensure an active and involved business relationship within the communities we serve. Additionally they share the responsibility of total store operation in the absence of the Store Manager.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Create a culture of food exploration, innovation and education for customers and employees.
• Provides genuine customer care and mentors all employees towards providing the same passionate service at all times.
• Assists Fresh Department Managers in hiring, training, evaluating and communicating to all assigned department crew members including counseling and administering discipline when needed.
• Set standard and enforces safe food preparations and handling ensuring compliance with company food safety policy.
• Coaches and cross-trains Fresh Department Managers and Assistants to encourage their management development in preparation for future promotional opportunities.
• Responsible for their own continued training and development in preparation for store management responsibilities.
• Responsible for Fresh department gross profit goals to include review of transmittals, inventory levels, pricing and receiving logs in the evaluation of their progress towards budgeted goals.
• Directs Fresh Department Managers in planning labor needs in line with projected/actual sales goals which includes reviewing sales projections and weekly work schedules that anticipate the needs of the business.
• Supervises and coordinates merchandising plans for assigned departments by conducting daily department tours, review of sales plan and meeting one-on-one to ensure proper execution of plans creating a trusted environment of open communication.
• Manages loss prevention efforts within the store in order to minimize losses and ensure a safe shopping and workplace.
• Works in and cultivates a team oriented work environment.
• Store is open ________________per day, seven days a week and may require weekend, holiday and shift work.
• Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE:
Education Level:
• High School Diploma or equivalent.
• Must maintain state Food Handler’s Permit.
• Food Safety Certification required.
Experience Level:
• Must be 18 years or older.
• 2-3 years of retail/grocery/restaurant operations experience with progressive management responsibilities.
Skills and Experiences:
• Requires a thorough understanding of store operations and company practices, policies and procedures.
• Ability to work varying shifts and days of the week (may include evenings, weekends, early morning or late shifts).
• Requires the ability to interpret profit and loss statements.
• Requires the knowledge and ability to implement emergency procedures in the event of equipment and computer software malfunctions.
• Proven ability to manage a fast-paced, high-volume retail environment while building and maintain strategic relationships with business leaders.
• Strong team building skills with demonstrated ability to motivate employees.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and highly developed interpersonal skills.
• Results oriented problem solver with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
• Passion for serving people and creating a customer and employee focused work environment.
• Ability to work at fast-paced, but efficient and controlled manner.
• Ability to work and communicate successfully with all levels of store support management and subordinates.
• Ability to plan and organize the activities of others.
• Knowledge of the principles and techniques of supervision.

• Knowledge of quality, outstanding customer service is essential.
• Ability to accept supervisory coaching related to performance, work habits, and attitude.
• Must be able to work in a fast, efficient and controlled manner.

• Math skills necessary, but not limited to following recipes, gross margins, markup and percentages, completing reports, budgeting labor and sales, completing sales transactions and calculating discounts.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to communicate with customers and employees, demonstrate professional phone etiquette and courteously answer telephone calls and use the intercom.
• TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• Some travel required.
PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
• Ability to stand and walk for long periods of time.
• Ability to reach, lift, stack and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to approximately 100 lbs.
• Ability to push and pull fully loaded hand trucks and pallet jacks. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary.
• Requires the physical ability to be able to cover for various positions throughout the store as required.
• May occasionally be exposed to temperatures of approximately -20o Fahrenheit, 28o Fahrenheit, and 35o Fahrenheit, while handling products in freezers, coolers and display cases.
• Temperatures of approximately 150o Fahrenheit while handling products in hot cases.
• Most work is performed in a temperature-controlled store environment.
• Incumbent may use calculators, keyboards, telephone, and other office equipment in the course of normal workday.
• Incumbent may sit for periods of time at desk or computer terminal.
• Must have own transportation and be available for overnight travel.
